Set #2 John & Mary WILCOX of Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, England. Last year while travelling in England I visited both places (about an hours drive apart) and they are equally wonderful in their own ways, but any 'trace' of WILCOX families from 1600s are long gone. Here is the little information I have on my line of Wilcox or Woolcocks. My great great grandfather was born in New York City (according to his son's death certificate) around 1838. His name was William T. Woolcocks or Wilcox. On June 30, 1864, he married Dora Szein or Szeim. Later her name is listed as Sinn or Simm. She was born 8-1853 in Hesse Darmstadt, Germany. In the family Bible it lists Dora's mother's death as Magret Szeim, October 18, 1876 at the age of 76 years. Buried October 20, 1876 I believe they may have been married in St. Louis, Missouri, because I believe I have found William on the 1860 census in St. Louis. On most census records William is listed as William T Wilcox, in St Louis city directories he is listed as William T. Woolcocks. He was a cook on a steamboat, he is listed as a riverman. Their children: Jennie Woolcocks 1868 to 3-19-1870 listed as Jane Elizabeth Emma Woolcocks 1870 William Woolcocks 9-29-1871 to 9-7-1932 Married Hester Yuston 2-1897, I found them in the city directory for Alton, Illinois for many years, they divorced and William died in St. Louis, Mo. He is buried at the St. Matthews Cemetery. His death record spells his last name as Woolcocks Lotta Woolcocks 1874 Married John Bush 10-3-1897 I believe she may have married a second time to a Mr Hubert Katie Woolcocks 1877 Married Frank Johnson 1-22-1893 and lived their married life in Alton, Ill They had several children: Willie Johnson, Frank Johnson, Dora Johnson, Myrtle Johnson, and Charles Alfred Johnson Harriet Woolcocks 1-26-1880 (my great grandmother) Married Thomas Lee Maness on 8-13-1894, location unknown I do know several of the children were born in East St. Louis, Illinois, Decaturville, Tennessee, Caruthersville, Missouri, and Alton, Illinois Children: Cora Maness Graham, Thomas Maness, Ellen Maness, Frieda Maness, James W. Maness (my grandfather), Homer Maness, Everette Maness, Dorothy Rayma Maness, and Edna Maness Daisy Woolcocks 10-13-1883 Married Will Enloe 10-14-1907 John Woolcocks 1888 William T Woolcocks passed away on November 17, 1890 at the age of 52 years Dora remarried a man with the last name of Gerber 3-30-1898 In 1900 she is listed as living in Madison county, Illinois with her daughter Kate Johnson and family. John Wilcox, a son of Dora's is listed as living there also. The Family Bible lists Dora as passing away on 5-11-1906. This is the little bit that I know about my family. As I said before, I have found the name as Woolcocks in the Family Bible, but in the census records and city directories it is also spelled as Wilcox If anyone has any information, please contact me, I have hit a brick wall with them. St Louis doesn't have any information on them. Thank you, [email protected]
My gr-grgrandfather Abram Wilcox born 1815 of OH>IA>NB had a son named Brazilla born 1869 in Jones, Ia. I have always thought that was a strange name. They ususally called him Bert. I was looking around on the net and came across a Brazilla Wilcox living in abt 1850 in Queensbury, Warren, NY his will is listed. What was strange also to me was the fact that his wife's family is hanging around Glenn Falls, NY. There name is Curvo. Does anyone know of the NY Brazilla Wilcox family details? I would really like to know if they are connected. Also satisfy a big curiosity? Thanks, Barbara Wilcox Cole

Hi WILCOX researchers. Sure wish I had as much as some of you do. But here's what I do know and it's as far back as I have been able to go: Abraham (or Abram) WILCOX gave his place of birth as Pennsylvania in 1774 on the 1850 census. In a statement years later, his granddaughter wrote that he was born in Kentucky. Maybe it was that strip of SW PA that was once claimed by Virginia. There is good evidence that Abe m (1) Mary 'Polly' Turner in Mercer Co. KY in 1795. They later moved to Muhlenberg Co. KY and according to the 1810 census he had two daughters and four sons. We believe that one son was named Joseph. This marriage broke up, it appears, after the war of 1812. Abraham Wilcox obtained bounty land for service in that war. Then we loose track of him for next 3 - 4 years. He m (2) Judith Doolin/Dowling ca 1817/1818. They lived and farmed near Hillsboro in Jefferson Co. MO until his death ca 1859. Wife Judith wa b ca 1792, the daughter of John Dowling and Mary Ford. Some say she was b on a ship from France but she gave Missouri as place of birth on the 1850 Jefferson Co. census. Their Ch were: Missouri, b 1819, spouse was Washinton Noland/Nowlan Martha, b 1827, spouse was James Pirkey Ruth Ann, b ca 1834, spouse was Ulysses Van Osdoll William, b 1837 Margeret, spouse was John Dickson Mary, spouse was ? Shelby Elizabeth, spouse was ? Mathews Isaac, spouse was Elizabeth DOVE John, spouse was Phoebe Mathews or Amelia Bishop (or maybe both) All were born in Jefferson Co. MO. Here's part of the granddaughter's statement (on recently found fragile paper): "Pedigree of Abby Noland Patterson" "My grandfather's name is Abraham Wilcox. Born in Kentucky. Fought in the Black Hawk war (Capt.). Grandmother's name Judy Doolin. Her mother was born & reared in Harve De Grace France. Grandfather Wilcox was a cousin to Aaron Burr, also a cousin to Daniel Boone (I think a 2nd cousin to Burr)." After a lot of research, I can not verify the family legend of a connection to either Boone or Burr. The first white baby b in KY was not until 1777 so I don't think that was true either but the world looked different in the 1770s (before KY was formed from VA). We sure would like to hear from anyone that has any more information on Abraham Wilcox or his descendents. Just received more confusing data on the elusive William Willcocks of Nelson County, KY. My William was married to a Phoebe Ashcraft, but may have been married previously. I was sent an abstract of a DAR record listing William as a SGT - MA born 2 Sep 1753, d. 30 June 1807 with a Mary Stevens claiming a Widow's pension. My William's will was probated in 1802 so this must not be him. Hope it helps someone.

This is just a shot in the dark. Does anyone have an Emery Wilcox from Ohio in their line? It would be in the late 1800's and early 1900's. He and my grandfather, who was born in 1879, were cousins. My mother and uncle, both born in the 1820's, remember him fondly, and have always wondered what happened to him. He was married to Stella Thayer. My grandfather, Claude Difford, died in 1931, and they lost track of him. If I could locate him, it might help to narrow down my Wilcox line in Trumbull county, Ohio. I am trying to research the Wilcox family prior to 1900. My branch lived in New Brunswick, and I have reason to believe in Prince Edward Island in the mid to late 1800s. The names Llewellyn and Leslie Wilcox show up in New Brunswick. Woodford, Stanley, Russell and Ella were children of Leslie Llewellyn Wilcox and Maude Turner, and were born shortly before and after 1900. The family moved into northern Maine by 1902 and potato-farmed in Aroostook County until the mid 1960s. I have little information about the family prior to 1850. Jackson F. Great idea to post our lines! I will capitalize my line. I think I can confirm that I am a descendant of William Wilcoxson who came over in 1635 on the Ship Planter. I have his father listed as William Wilcoxson, Sr. born about 1560 in Derbyshire, England. No listing of his wife, but children were: George, WILLIAM, Anne, and Margaret. The son William came over to the New World in 1635, with his wife and infant son, John. Other children were: Joseph, Timothy, SAMUEL, Elizabeth, Hannah, Sarah, Obadiah, and Phoebe. 2nd generation: Samuel (1640) married Hannah Rice in Windsor, CT 1665. Children were: Samuel, Jr., WILLIAM, Joseph, and Margaret. 3rd generation: William (1670) married Elizabeth Wilson in Simsbury, Hartford, CT 1698/99. Children were: Mary, Elizabeth, William, Martha, AZARIAH, Amos, John and Daniel. 4th generation: Azariah (July 27, 1706) married Mary Sexton in Simsbury, CT December 15, 1726. Children were: Azariah, Elisha, Hannah, Mary, Lydia, Deziah, Elizabeth, Rachel, AARON, and Zeba. 5th generation: Aaron (May 29, 1745) married Irana Barnard in Simsbury, CT May 17, 1767. Children were: Borden, Joshua, Riverus, Aaron, Jr., and FREDERIC. 6th generation: Frederic (January 26, 1771) married Eunice Smith in Simsbury, CT August 20, 1792. Children were: Frederic, Jr., Harvey, Joseph, ERASTUS, Lucretia, and Emily. They were all born in Chenango County or Madison County, New York. 7th generation: Erastus (June 12, 1801) married Eunice May in Manlius, Onondago County, New York, April 22, 1827. Children were: RUFUS ERASTUS BARTON, Clinton, Harvey, George, Eunice (died at age 5), Henry, Eunice, Joseph, and Lucius. 8th generation: Rufus (May 19, 1828) married Caroline Elizabeth Craine in Onondago County, New York, November 10, 1859. Children were: Flora May, Jennie Amanda, Willard, Cora, Byron and Myron - twins, and ALMIRON HENRY. The first two children were born in Cayuga Co., NY and the five younger children were born in Winona Co., Minnesota. Almiron Henry Wilcox was my grandfather. He married Myrtle Mae Everly from Polk County, Missouri on October 27, 1901 in Marion County, Kansas. They lived for a time in Kansas and then moved to Crook Co., Wyoming. In the Spring of 1913, with five children, they decided to move to Canada. They set out overland with two wagons, a team of horses and a team of mules. The actual trip took several months and they wintered their first Canadian winter in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. They eventually homesteaded in North Eastern Alberta, Canada and raised a family of eleven children. Five of their children are living today, one of them being my Mother. The story of their trip to Canada was written out by one of the older children, he being about 5 when they made their trip. One tale that has been handed down is about my aunt who was a small baby when they left Wyoming. Along the way, they encountered some Native Americans and were offered 13 of the Chief's best horses for their little baby daughter. It must have been a very interesting time to live but also one fraught with hardship. Now if I could just find my Grandmother's family, the Everlys, my family tree would be almost complete! My great grandfather on her side signed up for the Civil War and gave his parents names as Ma and Pa Everly - he had never heard them called anything else!! I'm still looking for them... Hello everyone (including newly-found cousins!), These Research Team Postings are really great -- I've found cousins from all parts of the country using it. I went to find possible information but have no address to respond to. Please email me if you are the one looking for Amos & Hezekiah. Mary [email protected]
Anyone know about the Essex Co Wilcox line? Isn't it Wilcoxson? Can you answer the query I received? I'm still having trouble locating our Elijah Wilcox, father of Horton Marshall Wilcox. I have learned from Horton's obit, however, that he was born in Ticonderoga, Essex Co, NY, and that his parents traveled with him to Minnesota in or about 1868. His father Elijah was not living at the time of Horton's death in 1928. If you have any infor let me know. Sharon
