    1. Herman and Martha Tofflemier of Wisconsin
    2. Karen Kinoshita
    3. TO those who had previous interest in Herman and Martha Tofflemier of Wisconsin--I hope this information will be useful to you, it may give more clues to this family. Dianne Parrish transcribed the following from "History of Dunn County Wisconsin" 1925. "John C. Wilcox, a prominent business man of Menomonie, part owner of the Graven & Wilcox shoe store, was born Jan. 3, 1862, at Honey Creek, Sauk County, Wis, son of Herman A. and Martha J. (Tofflemier) Wilcox. The father was a native of New York State, and the mother of Canada. From that state Herman Wilcox went in 1835 to Chicago, where he remained until 1856. He then went to Madison, Wis., arriving there before Wisconsin was admitted to the Union, and he was one of the pioneer developers of the city. It was there also that he was married to Martha J. Tofflemier. In 1856 he moved with his family to Sauk County, this state, where he engaged in farming and millin and also for some years was a merchant. There he remained until his death, which occurred March 22, 1917. They had been the parents of six children: Harriet, now Mrs. William S. Jones of Wichita, KS, Herman Alonzo, of Minneapolis, Mary, who married a Mr. Jackson and is now deceased, Frank L., of Superior, Wis., Jessie B., now Mrs. L.A. Brown of Madison, Wis., and John C. of Menomonie. John C. Wilcox acquired his education in the common and high schools at Spring Green, Sauk County, Wis., his teacher for much of the time being the lady who subsequently became Mrs. Robert LaFollette. His first industrial experienere in railroad and farm work in that county. It was in 1880 that he came to Menomonie and here for two years was clerk in the old Merchants Hotel. He then entered the employ of the Knapp, Stout & Co., with whom he remained for nine years, being manager of the clothing department at the time he resigned his position. In April, 1891, Mr. Wilcox formed a partnership with Peter Graven and they established the Graven & Wilcox Shoe Co., with a store located where the Jensen Hardware Co. is today at 314 Main Street. There they remained until 1900, when they moved to their present location at 336 Main Street, where they have the largest and best equipped shoe store in the city or county. Mr Wilcox has been active in Commercial Club work and other public affairs and in many ways has proved himself a public spirited citizen whose aid and inflluence have been potent factors in building up the community. He twice served as president of the Commercial Club, and is now president of the Retail Merchants Association and chairman of the approval committee. In addition to his interest in the shoe business, he is part owner of the Hansman & Wilcox stock farm at Knapp, a 190 acre tract which he and Mr. Hansman purchased in 1916 and have developed into a fine modern stock farm where they are raising pure bred Holstein cattle, H. F. Hansman acting as manager. Mr. Wilcox was married Jan 21, 1883, at Black River, Wis., to Miss Sarah W. Heller, daughter of Capt. Martin W. and Hannah (Budd) Heller. Of this union two children have been born: Lucille, who is now the wife of J. T. Flint of Menomonie, and Helen, wife of H. F. Hansman of Knapp, Dunn County. Mrs Sarah W. Wilcox passed away on June 13, 1924."

    1. Re: WILCOX in early RI
    2. Marsha Wilcox
    3. Bev, NEHGR Vol.147, pp. 188-19, gives Edward's lineage as: Daniel WILCOX + Isabell/Esabell ?. They lived in (North &) South Elkington, Lincolnshire, Eng., at least from 1591 to 1606. In 1605, Daniel WILCOX died, and in 1606 Isabell/Esabell married a Robert PASTORN/WESTERN Edward (bp 2/12/1603/4) m. Mary ?. They had 1 child & Mary apparently died in childbirth, since she was buried 2 days after the child was baptized. The child died 3 months later. Edward m. Susanna Thompson 5/12/1631 in Orby, Lincolnshire, Eng. The article gives her lineage as found in the parish records of Lincolnshire. They had (as recorded in the parish records of Lincolnshire): Daniel bap. 3/4/1632/3 Stephen, bap. 12/26/1634 No other children are listed in the article, and no other children have been proven to be theirs. In 1638, Edward & Susanna were in the colonies for Edward to be present at the signing of the compact of government in RI. Now, the information I inherited -- which is obviously from a book, but contains no source; and I have not been able to find this book in my research -- says: "Edward Wilcox died, probably at Narragausett, before 1648 and, in 1653, the above Smith appears to have acted as guardian for 8 children supposed to have been those of Wilcox: Stephen, Daniel -married Nov.28, 1661 Elizabeth, daughter of John & Sarah (Warren) Cook and doubtless others." The quote refers to Richard Smith, Sr. of Gloucester, Eng. and Taunton, MA. So, Edward as the father of Mary, is possible, but not documented. Or, if documented, not discovered yet. But there *is* this single hint that Edward & Susanna had other children besides just the known Daniel & Stephen. Anybody know what book that quote is from? Happy Hunting! 1. Fw: Children and grandchildren of John Wilcockson and Sarah Boone
    2. Keith/Connie Street
    3. Hi all, I have written about 6 pages on these descendants, and have sent copies to David Botts, Barbara Whiteside, Carol Meyer, Robert Esse, and Ruth W. I have almost 90 named grandchildren--am lacking the names of 6 children of David Wilcockson who married Kezia unknown. I also have only 1 child for Sarah Wilcockson who married Thomas Hagan/Hagans. I include dates and places of vitals when known, and would like the vitals to be as complete as possible.. I will send a copy of what I have to anyone who requests it, and only ask that you add, correct, subtract and document what you can when there are discrepancies with your records, and give this information to me. This is a working copy, and not a final product, and even final products often contain errors. Therefore you expect errors in the copy you receive. I am asking for your help so that as few errors as possible will remain. This is a synthesis of the information culled from the Boone Family by Spraker, Wilcoxson and Allied Families by Wulfeck, Our Wilcoxon Family by Elizabeth Payne, Genealogy of James W. Lovell Family by Marshall Wilson Lovell, Boones by Sarah Rockenfield, Draper Manuscripts, and correspondence with descendant family researchers such as Loran Koettel, Eileen Keithley, Marjorie Godfrey, Frances Walker, Eleanor Jaeger, June Welch, William Berry and William Scroggins, plus other researchers and sources. These sources often disagree with other. I do not show all of the disagreements. I will send a revised copy to all who reply, after I have had time to assimilate the information you send me. I spent a long time in typing this, and had the generations separated by indentions. All indentions disappeared when I transferred the material to email, so only numbers remain, and this makes it more difficult to follow. I will try to help if you have any questions on this. Thank you for your participation. Sincerely, Cousin Keith Street ---------- > From: > To: [email protected] > Subject: Children and grandchildren of John Wilcockson and Sarah Boone > Date: Thursday, June 25, 1998 10:17 PM > >

    1. LIST ADM: WILCOX _PLEASE READ - Blocking Attachments & HTML
    2. Craig Beeman
    3. "Hello again Fellow WILCOX Family Researchers & possible Cousins!" Might you be posting your messages using HTML? Or might you be posting your messages with an attachment? If you are, or if not certain, be sure to read this entire message! If you now know that you do, please be so kind as to change your e-mail program to send only standard .TXT messages to the WILCOX Family Mail List as HTML does cause problems for some of our list subscribers, and soon may be causing complications for you as well! PLEASE SEE BELOW! If you might not be familiar with how to do this, may I suggest visiting the following site with your web browser: http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/listowners/html-off.htm to see if something therein might be of help in doing so. Why is this necessary? > > Hi, folks -- Well, it took almost two months longer than expected, but we're right now installing a SmartList hack that blocks file attachments (including VCARDS), HTML messages and enriched text postings. Sorry about the delay: things have been crazy around here. This note is to let you know how it works. When a poster sends something to a mailing list written in HTML, or with a non-plain-text attached file, the list server will send the poster's message back to them, with a note at the bottom explaining the plain-text requirement at RootsWeb. A COPY OF THIS REJECTION MESSAGE WILL BE SENT TO YOU AS WELL! That's because the poster may write back to you to complain or to ask for help, and it can be pretty confusing if they write a reply to a message that you never saw. So when you suddenly start getting messages from [email protected], quoting some ungodly HTML mess that you never saw before, don't be alarmed. :-) It just means the list server is rejecting a MIME message that was sent to your list, and that you may get a response from the poster. This change is not currently something the listowner can turn on and off. Attachments will be blocked from every list alike. This might not be to the taste of some listowners, so we'll consider closely whether it would be safe to make it an optional setting. Thanks to Marc Nozell for finding the SmartList patch that was used as the basis for this fix! Regards, Tim Pierce RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative volunteer sysadmin and general hacker > > Thank you for your continued patience, cooperation, and participation in the WILCOX Family Mail List! 3. As a followup to my first post and to the replies received, very recently I was given my WILCOX line to research by a cousin - along with her "notes." She believes our line may be descended from William Wilcockson. Following is from the notes: >From a book: "Wilcox Family History" Being some of the First Five Generations in Direct Line from WILLIAM WILCOCKSON of Stratford, Connecticut, to JOSIAH WILCOX of Brecksville, Ohio; compiled by Owen N. Wilcox, Cleveland, Ohio August 1911 (Owen N. Wilcox quotes Orcutt's "History of Stratford"): William Wilcockson 34 and his Wife Margaret 24, their 2 yr old son John, arrived in America from England 20 April 1635 on the ship Planter and settled in Concord, Mass. They became the founders of Stratford, Conn. His will dated May 1651 left a widow and 5 sons. Children: 1.John abt 1633 2.Timothy 3.Joseph - father of Killngworth, CT Wilcoxes 4.Samuel of Simsbury, deputy of Gen'l Court of Hartford sons: Samuel, William, Joseph, Obediah of Guilford Obediah - 1775 designated planter at Guilford. His plantation known as Menukatuck. Married 1.Mary, 2.Lydia 3.Silence Children: Mary 1676 Lydia 1678 Obediah 1679 Ebenezer 1682 Ephriam Mindwell Timothy 1690 Silence John 1692 Joseph 1694 Janna Jemima 1699 Thankful 1701 Hope the above is of help to someone. If anyone is inspired to look for the book, it should have more of the lines than the notes. Kathy
