Dear Gram and others, please be more careful about letting the world know you are out of town. With summer vacations, it's easy to make a slip. Please be mindful that anyone can subscribe to the lists and send this information as a private message. Those that communicate back and forth often feel friendship for others, but we don't know who reads the lists silently. Genealogy has been pretty safe for all of us so far. Kathy, Can you give me a county in KY for me to start in on Joseph Wilcox? Did Joseph Wilcox live in the same county as Emma/Emiline Dowell when he married her? Dear Kay, I am in Florida again for a short time and will leave for home on the next Monday. I believe the information on John may have been in some clipping that I got from my grandmother, but I will have to find it when I get home and let you know for sure. I also hope to get over to Mercer Mo and see just what may be found over there at that time. After next Sunday please communicate comandr@jc.net Thank you. Patsy, Are you saying that you think, or have proof, that John Wilcox is the father, and Sarah Boone (Squire, Jr.) are Pleasant's parents? Hi list I am searching for my Wilcox side of the family among many others, any way all I know so far is that my gr gr gr grandmother was Minerva Wilcox she married William Noaks and they had at least one daughter Almeda Florence Noaks in Warren co. Illinois I have found information that leads me to believe that Minerva's parents were Henry and Sarah? Wilcox, anyone look familiar? Thanks Dave Starr
Scott Co VA? Do we have any George Wilcox, or Peyton Wilcox researchers reading below?? Does this sound like anyone in the George/Peyton Wilcox line? They were in Scott and/or Lee Co VA. One went to KY, but then back to VA. A son Abraham F Wilcox and a Peyton Wilcox went to Bates Co MO. Could Mary Catherine Wilcox b 1741 VA fit into this George/Peyton Wilcox line?? Hi, As a new subscriber to the Wilcox list, I would like to see if there is anyone doing research on the family of Glenn WILCOX, b. 1895, d. 1966. I believe he may be the father of Glenn, Joseph, Jerome, Alfred, and Doris and that they lived in the Saginaw, Michigan area at some point in their lives. Glenn, (Jr.) lived in Virginia and died there in the late 1970's. If anyone is familiar with this family or doing research on this line, I would appreciate hearing from you. I have just begun research on this line. Thank you for any help you can give me. 'til later, Phyllis Morefield Listowner: Morefield-L@rootsweb.com VAWise-L@rootsweb.com
Didn't he have a son Elisha Wilcox? If so, this could easily be the same as mine. My biggest problem with the Wilcox line is finding proof of what's been sent to me. I have found very little proof and no one seems to have proof of connections. I hesitate to give anything to anybody because of this....but if you wish, I'll be glad to send what is proven (mini) and unproven (maxi). Doris -----Original Message----- From: Charley F. Doris: William and Phoebe Wilcocks had sons (verified by court documents) William Wilcox -he married Mary Rickmire - 25 Feb. 1802 in Nelson County, Kentucky Ezreal (Ezra) Wilcox - he married Sarah Friend - 15 April 1794 in Nelson County, Kentucky Zerah Wilcox - he married Lydia Hazel - 7 May 1810 in Greene County, Kentucky I have quite a few court documents from Nelson County Kentucky to document my linage to William and Phoebe and the probate records of Ezra. William's Rev. War Records reveal that he served in the VA 3rd & 14th Continental Regiments. During the war he spent a lot of time in NJ and according to the 1880 Census records for a grandson William 3rd says his father (Ezra) was born in NJ. I have noticed that many of the men who served in the VA Regiments were from the New England States - MA & CT. etc. So I am looking for a William Willcocks/Wilcocks/Wilcox who was born 1744 (he gave his age as 55 in a 1799 court deposition) and who married a woman named Phoebe. The reason I doubt the records that say Phoebe's maiden name was Ashcraft is - I have found no records prior to 1912 which refer to her as an Ashcraft and in 1912 a great grand daughter of William and Phoebe gave a deposition relative to a DAR & SAR application wherein she gave Phoebe's name as Ashcraft but that deposition has so many obvious errors that I doubt the Ashcraft name. For instance she said both her grand father & great grand father fought in the Rev. War and in the same deposition she says her grand father was born in 1773 thus he was a child during the Rev. War The lady did have an Ashcraft grand mother but it was on her mother's side not her father's side of the family. With the additional information I have given here - I hope that you may have a "candidate family" for my William Willcocks. Charley F. Wilcox
