It only took me three years before I found a clue. The same clue that has been right under my nose all this time. Oh well... At any event, this newly found clue(s) has to do with Wilburns whose roots are in Giles, Co VA. And who married into the Fraizer family. Hugh Jordan Wilburn (b. 1838) son of Lewis Wilburn b. 1803 and Mary Polly Jordan, to be precise. (This Jordan family is most interesting. With an ancestor named Samuel Jordan who sailed aboard the 'Sea-Venture', was shipwrecked and finally landed in VA in 1610. Jordan later owned a plantation, first known as 'Diggs his Hundreds' and later recorded in history as 'Jordan's Journey'...And that too, is another story. But back to the Wilburn and Fraizer lines. I then learned (thanks to the very hard work of others) that the Fraizers were allied with the Van Bibber or VanBebber families. And that the Fraziers were allied with the family of Daniel Boone. And reportedly, one VanBibber family today has a rifle that once belonged to Boone due to allied kinship. And after logging on to the VanBibber genforum, I was amazed to see how many VanBibber families were allied with Wilburns, both directly and indirectly...and allied with the Harding families too. And the VanBibber family was also allied with the Josh Hite family. Josh HITE was a noted LONG HUNTER and leader in his own right. The Wilburns and HITES were also allied families and a marriage record can be found in the piedmont area of VA. (I am still working without my database and files. Dang it) But back to Daniel Boone and his many descendants. (Like many Wilburns, I too, heard that my ancestors once trekked with Boone and his buddies. Still, I have yet to be able to place my own Wilburn ancestors with Daniel Boone.) But other Wilburns were in Madsion Co KY (1787) and a better case can be made that these Wilburns might have rubbed elbows with the Long Hunter. Still, my own Wilburn ancestors were directly allied with the Wallen and Blevins family...And Daniel Boone, as history notes, stayed on Wallen Creek in Lee Co VA for a period of time)...Named for Elisha Wallen, also a noted Long Hunter. (Lewis Wilburn b. c 1770 m Susan Blevins) Moving right along....I then logged onto the Boone genforum...punched in the Wilburn name. And up popped one descendant of the Daniel Boone family whose given name was Wilburn. In fact, this person's name was Wilburn Netherton whose parents were: James Netherton b. 1842 and Ellen Rice. And the parent of James Netherton was reportedly TILLMAN Netherton...(Please note, there were a number of Rice/Wilburn marriages in KY and elsewhere.) Ah, the Tillman name also known as Tighlman or a varied spelling. And I recalled seeing a pedigree that claimed that Nancy Wilburn b c 1780 who went to MO m a Tillman. Of course, this made me consider that this (reported) Tillman/Wilburn connection has much to do with Tillman Netherton whose grandson was named Wilburn Netherton. There appear to be many other (indirect) connections to the Boone and Wilburn families in addition. Additional families include: Harding and Matthew or Mathew or Mathias families who connect to the families of Daniel Boone. I cite these due to the fact that there were some Wilburns who married into these families. AND, they also lived in the same location, at the same time. In addition, there was an Anderson/Boone connection...I believe that the John Anderson and his kin, who was related to the Wilburns of Cumberland Co KY were the same Anderson family that connects to Daniel Boone. We do know that Polly Wilburn of this same Cumberland, KY family m into the Champ line and that Champ was a companion of Daniel Boone and a Long Hunter in his own right. (There are some wills from Cumberland Co KY from Wilburns that show these connections.) And This same info can be found in the published book, 'The Wilburns Who Came West', 1991 by Margery Wilburn Jensen. And lastly, here are a few surnames of men who were noted as having trekked with Daniel Boone. I am only including the surnames that are known to me as having married into various Wilburn families. Calloway Smith Holder HART.......there were several Wilburn Harts...roots in Wilkes and Ashe Co KY and Claiborne Co TN Mullins Gentry At least six Gentry/Wilburn and Gentry/Welborn marriages. (including my own parents over a hundred years later.) White Phelps *Hart family is allied with Blevins and Osbornes, Sizemore, Stamper families who are kin to my own Wilburn ancestors. If any of you find this of interest and/or have additional info to share, please let me hear from you. Thanks so much....Vikky
