    3. Beth, Yes! Indeed! This is very helpful!!!! I knew when I saw your name that you had taken the time to look up these records. Here is what I think......(now someone will have to take the time to prove this right or wrong...so I want to be up front...... this is merely my opinion.) It seems to me that these Wilburns in CASS co MO were descendants of the Wilburns of Surry NC. Edward Wilburn and Mary St. Clair Wilburn...I note this for several reasons. 1. Edward Wilburn who m Susan Benham in Knox co KY in 1803 is one of the seven sons of Edward Wilburn who died in Surry NC in 1806. Edward Wilburn (jr) is the father of ... 2. Edward Wilburn m to Nancy Overton in 1830 in Jackson Co MO. (This has long been proven by his descendants. (I am not one of them) Edward Wilburn and Susan Benham were married in Knox co KY in 1803. They lived in Knox Co KY until c 1819, when Edward sold his land and relocated to MO. Edward Wilburn was also a slave holder. In his old age, Edward then went with one of his sons to Dallas co TX and died there in 1846. I believe that he went with Edward Wilburn and Nancy Overton Wilburn (Please note, that I do not have my database up and running yet and that I am recalling this from memory. I hope that some of the descendants of this line will jump in a provide more detailed information.) Apparently they went from MO to TX to help establish the Peter Colony...Some very interesting material and court records are on line so if anyone is interested they can find this material on the internet.) 3. Edward Wilburn m to Susan Benham also had a brother named Richard Wilburn. Richard Wilburn m Suzannah Roberts in Surry NC in 1792. (I believe this is correct) They had children and one of them was named Elliott Wilburn. There was an Elliott family living in Surry NC at the same time as Richard Wilburn...and I suspect that they were related to the Wilburns there and hence the given name Elliott. (These Elliott families were also my ancestors who later m into my own Wilburn family) 4. There was an Elliott Wilburn in Wayne Co TN in 1820...Then he disappears...my hunch is that he is father of these CASS CO MO Wilburns....(please keep in mind this is merely a hunch.) 5. There is an Elliott Wilburn in Cass Co Mo. So I suspect that Tempy Wilburn Adkins b TN was a member of this Wilburn family who lived IN Wayne co TN... 6. I do know that the given names cited by Beth living in CASS Co MO also run in the family of Edward Wilburn of Surry NC. Children of Edward Wilburn who died in Surry NC in 1806 are: Richard.....m to Suzannah Roberts ..son Elliott Wilburn m Nancy Snow in Surry NC John .....Mary Hampton (a widow) Zachariah m Jemina White Robert Thomas Lewis......Mary Garland in 1804 in Johnston Co NC (could be son of same name) Edward...Susan Benham Temperance Suzannah m Stephen Jones Lydia m (whatshisface) Slaughter I know that others can fill in the blanks here better than I can...But I cite these names to show how and why I believe that Tempy is a descendant of this family. BUT....it should also be noted that Burwell Wilburn also descends from a family that has very similar naming patterns. And my own Wilburn ancestors also have most of these given names included. And I am of the opinion that all of these mentioned Wilburn families were related. But I do not believe that Tempy is a descendant of Burwell and Mary Lomax Wilburn... I can see why she might be listed as a descendant of Burwell Wilburn due to the naming patterns...Easy to see why someone would draw this conclusion. Thanks to Beth, I was able to provide a bit more detail...I am certain that others can provide you with additional assistance re: Edward Wilburn and Susan Benhan and his son Edward Wilburn m to Nancy Overton... Please too, keep in mind that I have merely attempted to put together what makes sense to me. Cheers, Vikky ps...Richard Wilburn who appears in 1850 CASS co MO later relocated to KS by 1860. ----- Original Message ----- From: Beth Shumate Sent: Friday, September 20, 2002 6:14 PM To: WILBURN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [WILBURN-L] Re: WILBURNS Cass County MO The 1850 census for Cass County has the following: Cass County, Missouri; page 109, lines 18-23, house 695/700; 18 Oct 1850 Adkins, James, 33, farmer, 160, IL; Temperance, 29, TN; Benjamin, 12, MO; Wyatt, 7, MO; Nancy A., 5, MO; Susan J., 3, MO (There is a Wyatt Adkins within a page (house 689/694) of James and Tempy in this census.
