    1. [WILBURN-L] Elihue or Elihu Wilburn & Pocahontas
    2. Vikky Anders
    3. Hello from Vikky... For those of you whose Wilburn ancestors were in Goochland, VA, in 1751, and were later in east TN, I have stumbled on some interesting bits of evidence. And these pieces lead me to believe that the Embree or Embry families of Goochland, VA were allied with Wilburns. I will list what I believe to be threads that link these families together. 1. Embree or Embry families were kin to VAN METERS of Goochland, VA...(I have long suspected that Wilburns were kin to Van Meters too.) 2. Embry or Embree families were kin to Woodsons and Hughes. (Wilburns were kin to Woodson and Hughes families of Goochland, VA, same time frame. 3. The given name Talton runs in the Embry family for two hundred years, according to one Embry researcher. (Please note, this name is also spelled TARLETON). 4. Robert Talton Wilburn was b. 1816 in VA. 5. The Tarleton/ Talton family first appears in York Co VA in 1650. Richard Wilburn was noted in York Co VA in 1656. 6. The Talton/Tarleton families were allied with Hughes and Woodson families and Mims families. 7. Wilburn families of Goochland, VA were allied with Hughes,Woodson and Mims families, same time frame. 8. Ehilu Embree of east TN descends from this Goochland, VA Embry family...And he is allied with Williams family and was a generaton older than both Elihu and Elihue Wilburn. PLEASE NOTE: I am not making any claims that either Elihue or Elihu Wilburn and their families connect to the Elihu Embree family. But I do think that this is a good possibility. In sum, I found the following families to be allied: VanMetersEmbry/Embree/Hughes/Woodsons/Tarletons/Taltons/Mims/Wilburns As most of you Wilburns who have ancestors in eastern TN know, court houses burnt down...there are NO census records until 1830. Few marriage records before that time frame too. So, often we have to find other means of locating our ancestors. And thanks to the internet and the work of others, we can often find clues that would have been impossible to find before the information age... If any of you have any questions about this material, please let me know. In addition, I invite you to log onto the Tarleton genform and look for the Tarleton families in York Co VA...Some most interesting history. Keep in mind that Richard Wilburn was also noted in York VA tax records in 1656. According to Tarleton researchers, these families were allied with Woodsons and Hughes back then. Also something that might be of interest. Trader Hughes .....At least one Hughes researcher claims that Trader Hughes died in what is now Amherst Co VA...It would take someone far more knowledgeable than me to prove or disprove this. BUT if Trader Hughes is the Hughes ancestor of those of us Wilburns who are descendants of the Goochland, VA Wilburns, then we are related to POCAHONTAS. This is a BIG IF...I am not making this claim, but I do believe it to be likely...But keep in mind..UNPROVEN> And we might be kin to POCAHONYAS through another line...But that's another story...much more work to do on that one. And do not hold your breath either.. (John Wilburn m to Suzannah Preston)...MIGHT be a possibility?????? I do know that some Wilburns appear in the descendants of Pocahontas Book. But not through either the Hughes of Preston lines...forgot how they were noted as descendants...But there is a great BIG Pokie Book and Wilburns are listed in the index.. And that's it for tonight! Cheers, Vikky in San Diego
