Beth, Another researcher reported to me that Burwell Wilburn who married Mary Lomax and lived in Perry Co TN had roots in Surry/Sussex Co VA. Based upon the records that I once reviewed, I found this to make sense. And I would say this is correct, UNLESS someone can prove otherwise. There are a number of Sussex Co VA Church records that show Wilburn families there c 1740 to 1780. (This is from memory and I do not recall exact lineage. NOT EVEN!!!!) But here are some of the names that I do remember.... John Wilburn, Anne Patterson, Temperance Wilburn, Burwell Wilburn, Benjamin Wilburn (I believe twin to Burwell) and also a Richard Wilburn who I recall as being noted last c 1780. And a Benjamin King,too, who appears to be related to these various Wilburn families. If someone has these Church Records from this county, (Sussex Co VA ) it would be GREAT if they were posted on this genfourm. .. As I noted in my prior message re: Burwell Wilburn and Mary Lomax Wilburn... I can understand why anyone would think that the Wilburns in CASS Co MO might be descendants of Burwell Wilburn and Mary Lomax. But I remain convinced that this is NOT likely and instead, much more likely to be descendants of Edward Wilburn of Surry Co NC and one of his sons... But let me be clear here...I am of the opinion that ALL of these Wilburn families were related. I believe that the Wilburns of Sussex Co VA and the Wilburns of Surry Co NC and the Wilburns of Goochland, VA and the Welborns of Rowan Co NC were all related....And that they were related to the Welborns of Accomack Co VA. It took me years to come to this conclusion, but I believe now that this is the case. Cheers and well wishes to all Wilburns everywhere.
