I heard that the Wilburns said they were dutch (or black dutch, or something like that!) in order to hide their indian blood during those days! ??? Does anyone know if this is true?

I understand that he and Melinda Frances Townsend were married in 1882 in Powell County, KY. He had twin sons in 1892, but Melinda was remarried by 1900 to an E.K. Meadows. So, apparently he died between 1892 and 1900.

He was born 11-12-1886---pos. in TX and died 12-20-1927 in Waller Co., TX. My grandfather died young and as his wife did not read or write she apparently knew nothing about his family. There is nothing on his death certificate to give me any clue about his family. His mother married a Fred Jacobs and my grandfather's death cert. is under the name of A. Jacobs. He did not even know his name was Wilburn until he married. His mother's name was Louie (b. 12-27-1870 d. 8-11-1950) but I do not know for sure what her maiden name was. I think it might have been Williams but if she was not married then it would have been Wilburn. I would appreciate any help in finding out more about this side of my family. I have exhausted all that the resources to find this info. Thank you, Jean Hancock theshadow@glade.net

I want to say THANK YOU for all the help and support you have brought to me by posting messages about this family. I have been reading the messages for a long time and had the feeling I was related and it finally came to light today. My Grandmother is very sick and never knew anything about the Wilburn part of the family ( her father is Jessie Albert Wilburn) . I took the mission of finding the info for her before she passes. With your help, I have managed to complete the task for her. If there are any photos of the Wilburns, or grave sites of this family, I would love to have them to print and show my Grandmother. You can email me @ yolandak@txucom.net I know there is more to find and I will keep digging with all of you. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!! Sincerely, Yolanda
My grandfather was named Herrick Tasoni Wilburn and he was from Kennett, Mo. He died a couple years ago and is buried there. I'd really be interested in comparing notes as I have very little info on my Wilburn line. The Kennett connection is really intriguing. However, due to a computer upgrade I won't have access to my files for a few days so I'll be in touch after I get my stuff back.
