    1. [WILBURN-L] Wilburn and French and allied families
    2. Vikky Anders
    3. There were a number of Wilburn families who settled into SW VA and were related to families in eastern TN and KY. These are different families but all related. I have included a few other French families who did not marry Wilburns but instead married Wilburn kin. 1. P French m Barbara Ellen Wilburn in Giles, VA Aug 19 1884. Barbara is the daughter of Edward Burrell (Boone) Wilburn b. 1818 in Lee Co VA...and Catherine Fraley...Edward Burrell wilburn was first m to Nancy JAMES in Lee co Va in 1838. Marriage was performed by Isaac Floyd Wilburn b. 1801 whose first wife was also a James... Edward Burrell Wilburn is the son of Robert and Manerva WILLIAMS Wilburn who later settled in Carter Co KY...Robert is the son of Richard Wilburn who was married to a Hughes 2. James French m Ann CHAPMAN Jan 1 1797 in Montgomery Co VA...Ann is dau of John Chapman and UNK BRITTAIN. James was also married to Suzannah Hughes, daughter of David Hughes and Suzannah Wilburn (not proved) James was the son of Matthew FRENCH and Sarah PAYNE. James French, son Hugh French m Love Lambert in Giles VA on May 24 1820. Son Andrew French m Rebecca Day in 1834 in Tazwell Co VA. 3. Andrew Jackson French m Olivia J WILBURN Aug 24 1882 in Giles, VA...Oliva was the daughter of Patterson Wilburn b. 1821 in Giles, VA and m Mary ann EATON. 4. Andrew KIRK (neighbor of Wm Wilburn of Giles VA) m Obedience FRENCH in Giles, VA on Feb 26 1828. Daughter Rebecca Kirk m Albert M French Mar 3 1858. 5. John William Wilburn m Rachel French in Giles VA...he was son of John Milton Wilburn and Sarah Conley.. 6. Rufus FRENCH m Aramita Wilburn Jul 7 1878 ...she is dau of Patterson Wilburn and Mary Ann Eaton...Patterson is son of Wm Wilburn m Betsy Chapman... 7. William French m Aramita Wilburn 1832 in Giles VA...daughter Margaret French died in Rhea co TN 8. Somehow ST Clair French fits into the scheme of things too. He appears to be kin to the St Clair family that married into the Edward Wilburn family of Surry NC...DUNNO for sure???? If you have anything to add, or corrections or wish more info. Please contact me. Cheers Vikky VikkyA@msn.com

    3. Here is what I have: Thomas Wingfield Wilburn m Phoebe Moore on July 11, 1800 in Mecklenberg, VA. One of their daughters married Pascal Tally or Talley...The Warrens and Talleys were allied families. Which MIGHT explain both Wilburn Warren and Wilburn Talley who came later. Dunno??? But this would be my guess. I think that if you go to the Wilburn genfourm and punch in the name Brinn, you will connect with the person who did considerable research on this line and was most generous in sharing his information with me. Some additional info pertaining to this family, I pulled from other sources from the internet. Some I added from my own research of census records in Halifax, VA....1820.30.40 and 1850. And some from VA marriages that I found in the local LDS library in San Diego. Where would I go to check this out? To my knowledge no one in our family has ever found any siblings for William Warren Wilburn born 1782 in Dan River, Mecklenburg, VA. I looked at the Census records for Mecklenburg, VA and could not find Thomas Wingfield Wilburn. Ancestry World Tree does not list Thomas Wingfield Wilburn. 3. Of course my query was a long shot. My grandfather William George was born in March 1873. I am afraid that there is no obvious connection. Too bad. Thanks for responding. They married in 1906 in Shelby Co. TX. I am not related to the Sarah Dickenson and Wm. Wilburn on the message board as far as I know. But, we have never found the parents of my great great grand father William Warren Wilburn born May 12,1782, Dan River, Mecklenburg County, VA. We don't have any of his siblings. This is our brick wall. We do know he left VA and married in GA about 1800. The 1810 census lists him and his spouse, Frances, on the Double Head Reserve, AL. The first five children were born in GA; Felix G. 1802, Martha Lovina 1804, Fielding Gafford 1805, Lihue Tandy 1807, and William Smith 1808. The last three children were born in Madison County, AL. Does any of this fit with your family? I would be interested in any Wilburn's in VA in the 1750-1800 period. So far, we have been unable to find a connection. 3. Mildred, Isn't William Warren Wilburn a sibling of Thomas Wingfield Wilburn who was also born in Mecklenberg, VA???? (1783) I always assumed that the two were siblings.. At any event, there were some TALLEY/WARREN marriages in the family of Thomas Wingfield Wilburn family. 3. Vikky here...I am going though some of postings that I took off the internet and want to share some tidbits here. Norma Kirchhofer put some material on the Warren genforum that I thought might be of possible interest to those of you who are reseaching William Warren Wilburn. She notes that William WARREN was b 1738 in Albermarle Co VA and died in 1807 in Edgefield Co SC. She states the he is the son of James Warren Jr of Amherst Co VA. I note this due to the fact that some Wilburns of VA also relocated to Edgefied Co SC. Some of her other postings show that she was researching a Fielden family too. Another researcher notes that her great grandmother, Julia Talley married WILBURN Warren. After Julia died, Wilburn Warren married Mary Angeline Lewis. Another researcher notes that Caroline Warren b c 1765 married Michael Gafford of VA. I thought that I once spotted the Gafford name connected with descendants of William Warren Wilburn. Dunno???? Cheers,

    3. Are any of those buried Wilburns born in early-mid 1800s? Would love to have the listing - if you do have any. I'm trying to tie my Wilburn line to the Giles County Wilburns. My Wilburn was born 1869-1874 and moved out of Giles County by the 1900 census. If I'm correct, he only had two siblings - both females and I don't know who/if they married so I'm kinda lost unless something breaks lose. My email is easpainter@yahoo.com if you prefer to talk off-forum. Beth __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Please let me know if you have any ancestors with the following surnames. 1. CROSS There once was a Wilburn CROSS. 2. Warner ancestors? 3. Whitt or Witt ancestors? 4. Burton ancestors? 5. Boggs ancestors. There once was a Wilburn Boggs? Thanks heaps for your time. Cheers. Vikky at vikkya@msn.com

    3. Hi, Let me jump into this ongoing conversation. I am James Harris Wilburn. My grandfather was William George Wilburn probably born in Ohio near the West Virginia border. Parents are believed to originate in Giles Co. VA. Just a long shot but with 23 Williams in your family tree maybe one could be William George. Vikky Wilburn Anders has been searching with me to find his parents since this is as far as I am able to go. Appreciate a response. 3. Re: James Louis Wilburn m to Cornelia Bell Kindred.... I have this couple in my database. Here is what I show: James Lewis Wilburn b Aug 27 1858 died Sept 17 1931 m Cornelia Kindred b. 1884 and died in 1970. (I also show that he married Julie Long before his later marriage to Cornelia. James Louis Wilburn was son of Benjamin Franklin Wilburn & Sarah Ann Holloway Benjamin Franklin Wilburn b. 1825 in Hickman Co TN m February 20, 1853 in Metropolis Massae Co ILL and died October 4 1875 in New Madrid Co MO Sarah Ann Holloway was b 1834 and died June 22 1896 in New Madrid Co MO. Benjamin Franklin Wilburn was the son of : John Wilburn and Elizabeth Phelps. John was b 1776 in VA and was married first to Judith Martin, daughter of Benjamin Martin of Halifax Co VA...I think it likely that John was the son of Gunnery Wilburn and Judith Owen Wilburn who were married in Goochland, VA in 1771. At any event, this is how I entered him in my database as having these parents. The Wilburns of Goochland, VA were also allied with the STOVALL family of Goochland, VA c 1751. Elizabeth Phelps was nearly 25 years younger than John and was born in 1800. If you are interested in siblings in these families. please let me know. I have some of them, but not all. Most of this information was given to me by another researcher and also a descendant of Benjamin Franklin Wilburn. I believe that you can find some of his postings on the Wilburn genfourm. It's been a few years ago since I last communicated with him. I think that his name is Ken. At any event, he was very generous in sending me his pedigree which I added to my database. Another person who contributed to my database was Lindsey Wilburn who is also a descendant of this family line.
