    3. Mary, Vikky here...To answer your question about Lucinda Wilburn and her Seaborn husband.... ALAS! I buzzed all over the internet before replying hoping that I could pick up something. And I did find some things of slight interest, but nothing close to being able to tell you anything concrete. So sorry! But I will keep you in mind for future thoughts...What I need to do is look at your posting history and see if I can gleam some clues...didn't do that yet. If I find anything interesting, I'll get right back to you. 3. >From Vikky. I am in awe of the research done by the person who posted this historical genealogy data. And I wanted to share this wonderful bit of work with all Wilburn researchers. The information posted is a treasure! BUT do not look for names of any Wilburns, Welborns regardless of spelling...Alas! Not there. But there ARE hidden Wilburns all over the place...They just did not get captured in spite of this very extensive research project. But many of the families noted as descendants of Capt Thomas Graves and their allied families ARE the same ancestors that some of us Wilburns also share today. And the beginning of this narrative is rich in early VA history. Keep in mind that the vast majority of us Wilburns in America today, have ancestors who were eye witnesses to unfolding events almost from the onset of the founding of our great Nation. As history notes, there were less than 2500 souls in VA by 1623. Capt Richard Wlborun was cited in VA as early as 1624. History also notes that there were approximately 5000 colonists in all of VA by 1635. William Wilburn, indentured servant is recorded by 1636 followed by other early Wilburns cited in 'Cavaliers and Pioneers', Nell Nugent's massive volumes of early VA settlers. another Richard Wilburn (probable not the same person since longevity was in short supply during the early years) was Richard Wilburn in York Co VA in 1656...And Samuel Welborn and Robert Wilburn also noted as servants in VA in 1652 and 1654. I jotted down some surnames in this narrative that are also from the same families that some of our Wilburn ancestors married into. Please note that I did not jot down the most common surnames... I hope that those of you who take the time to review this post will find it worth your while. There was a least one Graves/Wilburn (early marriage in VA) You might wish to look and see if any of these surnames are included in your own research. 3. You are quite right - also Mulungeons and Indians were listed as Mulatto sometimes in our census. It was only a person traveling along doing the census enumerations - it wasn't a perfectionist - our census records are a secondary proof. And how about the "Dark Irish" families? 3. Very interesting posting, Mildred. I've never posted before, but I have done a great deal of research in Census Records, etc. I know you're very thorough in your research as a lot of us are, but just because they were listed as "Mulatto" does NOT always truly mean they were part of the black race. A lot of the time it was the Census Enumerators that decided what color they were and terribly misjudged as to what race they really were. However in saying that, the Enumerators were only allowed basically 3 choices of what to enter for race... White, Black or Mulatto. There were white slaves as well with various shades of skin color that were listed as "Mulatto". And when slaves were allowed their freedom, a lot of them took on their former Masters surname since they didn't have one. This really does need further research. I just thought I'd point out this little tidbit of information for others to know about while researching. I have a long list of colors that have been entered into court records and mostly because of the Enumerators first and we all know about their erroneous errors in spelling alone. Now actually proving if they were of two different races is another story all together. I hope I have helped some of you. 3. Mildred, Your information is WONDERFUL! JUST GREAT! You have always been so helpful and I want you to know how much I appreciate this too! As you know, I have been working for years trying to figure out IF and how our various Wilburn and Welborn families connect. I am just starting to get some breakthroughs. It's been a real slow learning process, but one that I enjoy thanks in large measure to good hearted people like you. I have a lot more work to do to put these pieces of this big puzzle all together. Not that I will ever be able to find everything that I would like to find, but thanks to people like you on the internet who freely share, I am really making some progress. Right now I am working on the Lunenburg VA Wilburns and the Mechlenburg, VA Wilburns and they are related and are also related to the other Wilburn famiiles in VA too. And are also related to those in NC too... As you know just about all of the Wilburns living in America today have colonial VA ancestors...I would estimate about 95% of Wilburns today have early colonial roots... I have little knowledge of these later Wilburn families who settled into GA, SC, TX, AR, AL and other places...but by us all working together and helping each other we can begin to learn who are earlier ancestors in VA were. And its always exciting to find new ancestors, right? So I will definitely add new info as I uncover it and post on the website. Again, many thanks. A very Happy Thanksgiving to you. Warmest regards, Vikky Just how they are related is the big puzzle, but slow ----- Original Message ----- From: M6907SPENCER@aol.com Sent: Wednesday, November 27, 2002 5:52 PM To: WILBURN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [WILBURN-L] Wilburns and allied families Captain Wm.
