    1. [WILBURN-L] Opechancanough and Mary Sizemore ? And Wilburns???
    2. Vikky Anders
    3. Vikky here again, with tidbits. Many of you know of the Wilburn/Sizemore connection. There were at least three, if not more, Sizemore Wilburns. (They are also related to my own Wilburn ancestors living in Wilkes Co NC c 1800. From what I have gleamed these Sizemore families who married Wilburns, are descendants of Goldenhawk Sizemore For those of you who have not visited the Ponahontas genforum, I thought some of you would find this of interest. Keep in mind that I am not knowledgeable about these early families. All info that I have is taken from the internet. http://genforum.genealogy.com/pocahontas/messages/620.html

    3. Vikky: I've been told that some of my family on the HAYS / HAYES married into the BOONE family and that many of he HAYS/HAYES, LINCOLN's were all associates or friends in Kentucky. Now your note on the WELBORN family being (likely) being involved with the BOONE is news. Of course, Gerri and I are looking at her WILLBURN families. That's really interesting. 3. For those of you who descend from the once Quaker Welborns of Chester Co PA, to Baltimore co MD to Rowan Co NC and beyond, you might find this post of interest. Sure looks like your ancestors were pretty chummy with the family of Daniel Boone. And likely have some kinship to the Boones through the Whitakers who also married into the same families as did Welborns. We know that one William Crabtree was a noted Long Hunter, who trekked with Boone. This William Crabtree was kin to another William Crabtree who married A Teague and whose brother in-law was William Welborn b 1712 and married to Ann Crabtree). As history tells us many of the names of other men who trekked with Daniel Boone, Elisha Wallen have been lost to the ages. Wilburn/Wallens were allied families many times.. But of those whose names were recorded in journals from that era, where indeed related to both Welborn and Wilburn families. For example: Michael Stoner, was noted as actually being as knowledgeab! le as Boone was in his time. While tidbits are remembered of him, no books about him were ever written. But there did follow a Wilburn Stoner. Not surprising since many Wilburn families were pretty rugged guys themselves and most likely traveled in the same company and fashion and indeed many of these Wilburns, both men and women married into the same families. There was also A Wilburn/Champ marriage too. Champ himself was a noted hero and explorer in his time. And then there was Wilburn Waters, part Catawaga Indian, himself a noted explorer. And someone did write a book about him and his adventures. So when it came to settling the wilderness, our ancestors, were no slackers. Well, that's my thought for the day. Cheers always, Vikky http://genforum.genealogy.com/whitaker/messages/2666.html

I must tell you that 95& of the information that I have on this family has been taken from the research work of Ann Beeson Gahan who kindly shared her work with me and many others too. Davis Wilburn b 1792 in NCm Hannah Haywood in Stokes Co NC. (I can tell you that there is some connection, between the Davis and Clinard and Wilburn families before Davis Wilburn was born.) Davis Clinard, born a generation or more earlier, is a factor.) Some Wilburns from this family married into the Clinard family, who were descendants of Davis Clinard) Please note there is a marriage record of Davis Wilburn and Hannah Haywood, but I failed to enter in my database. Davis Wilburn and Hannah Haywood had the following children. Daniel b 1811 m Nancy Justice/son Milton Wilburn Geo b 1815 m Levina Unk (son Robert b 1841. James Wilburn/Welborn was the son of William Wilburn b 1712 and Ann Crabtree, dau of William Crabtree also of MD. William Wilburn m to Ann Crabtree was the son of Edward Wilburn and Elizabeth (Mitchell) a widow whose first husband was a Mitchell...Edward died in 1731 in Baltimore Co MD. I believe that Edward Wilburn m to Eliz Mitchell was the son of Edward Wilburn.... Please note, that I am not the best source of information on these early Welborns or Wilburns...For more details and documents of support, please go to the Welborn genforum and punch in Crabtree or Teague. There is a ton of information re: these early families. You might also look for Ann Gahan who is most knowledgeable of her ancestors. Ann has spent forty or more years researching this particular Welborn line. Cheers, Vikky in San Diego

There is a Davis Welborn who received a land grant/patent for land in Madison County Indiana in 1837. Lavina Welborn Gordon named her two sons William and Davis. Davis Welborn was from Henry County Indiana according to the land grant records. William Wilborn received a land grant to land in Madison County Indiana in 1839. These Welborns have to be related to Lavina and Lewis Wilborn/Welborn. There are many Welborns buried in Madison County. In Henry County Indiana there are land grant records for Joshua Welborn, 1827, and then he has a land grant in Madison County in 1837! Also in Henry County Indiana are land grants for Emsley Welborn in 1835 and Elias Welborn in 1835. Anderson Gordon, Annon and Nancy's father, received a land grant in Madison County Indiana in 1839 aand Osborn Lamar from Clinton County, Ohio in 1837. Lavina Welborn Gordon's daughter Hannah married George Washington Lamar and one of their sons was named Emsley (Esley). George was the son of Osborn Lamar. George and Hannah Lamar moved from Indiana to Missouri then to Oklahoma. I have most of the info on the Gordon line. Nancy Gorden/Gordon/Gordan was the sister of Annon Granville Gordon who married Lavina Welborn. As I said Nancy married Lewis Welborn, Lewis was born 5/22/1817 died 9/2/1890 and is buried in the Welborn Cemetery in Madison County Indiana. Nancy is buried in Lilly Creek Cemetery in Madison County Indiana, 8/2/1826 to 10/25/1907 (her parents are buried there). Annon and Nancy's parents were Anderson Gordon and Lydia James Gordon and the paternal grandparents were William and Ann Gordon of Rowan County NC. I would love to have any info that you have on these Welborns as I have nothing and have been unable to put together how the Welborn families are related. Thanks for your reply, I truly appreciate your help. Gladys Moore

    3. Mary, I have no information re: Wilburn F Stone. But I can tell you that there was at least one Wilburn/Stone marriage. Marion Francis Wilburn m Katherine Stone in Carter KY in 1868. NO doubt there were other Stone/Wilburn marriages too. And yes, this name would certainly indicate that Wilburn F Stone had some Wilburn ancestors. But this does not mean that his mother was a Wilburn. Could be a grandfather or even a relative distantly related to Wilburns and the given name Wilburn handed down to other descendants. Lots of men of another era and today have Wilburn as their given name. I once browsed the ancestry.com and punched in Wilburn as a given name. To my amazement, over 4000 entries appeared. Who knew???
