    1. [WILANGLA] Lily and Bent Cemetary plots resold

    3. The same thing is happening at the Lily Cemetery. They are running out of room at Lily so they are going back through and re-issuing and reselling all the older unused spaces. On one hand it is conservation and recycling. On the other hand, is it legal to resell land that has a deed if no one knows who has possession of that deed? Is there an expiration date on cemetery deeds? Woodsie Gibbs purchased about 20 plots for he and his children. A couple of years ago those plots were being resold and used by others, some related to the Gibbs family and some not. They are working back towards my great-grandfather John KEOUGH and infant children (Woodsie's son-in-law and grandchildren) whose graves are not marked. We are not sure exactly where John (d. 1942) and four infant children (d.1922, 1924, & 1925) are in the big lot because former sextons (record keepers) did not put names on the unmarked but used graves. I was told that they will just keep selling off Woodsie's plots until they hit John's coffins. Of course, those infants and maybe even John were buried in wooden coffins without vaults so I hope there is no damage done when they do find them. Because there was such poor record keeping at both Lily and Bent Cemeteries in the past I have been unable to find the grave of Maggie MULL KEOUGH HANNON, John's mother, who d. 1904 and is said to be buried in Bryant on her death certificate and in Neva in her brief newspaper death announcement. So where is she buried? We may never know. It is very disappointing.
