I've always assumed they were German immigrants and had landed in a New York port where their son was born. I do not know if he had any siblings. I have done enough census work to think that Charles probably met Anna Follis/Fallis in Canada where they lived for a period of time. Their oldest child, Minnie Gehrke McHale was born in Milbrook(e), Durham, Ontario. This is information from Minnie's niece, Bernice, my father's oldest sister; she was raised by Minnie. CORRECTION: I know it is really confusing what with all the Charles and Walters, but Walter Gehrke, the oldest son, was married to Maude Betsey Clough. Maude and Walter were my grandparents.
