Author: jensearch1 Surnames: Mistely, Haase Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.wisconsin.counties.langlade/1320/mb.ashx Message Board Post: JOHN MISTELY John Mistely, known as the bedrock of the Enterprise community in southern Oneida County, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006 at Friendly Village nursing home in Rhinelander. He was 100 years old. Born Sept. 13, 1906 in Enterprise, he was a son of the late William and Anna (Haase) Mistely. He attended Enterprise school and graduated from Rhinelander High School. Mr. Mistely served in the U.S. Army for 41 months during World War II and later lived in Janesville, where he was employed by General Motors for two years. He returned home to Enterprise where he was employed in construction and painting and worked in the woods. He performed on his accordion in a polka band for 46 years and also cooked for a deer hunting camp for 57 seasons. Mr. Mistely enjoyed hiking and skiing and traveling. The sides of his barn were covered with murals he painted and he regularly designed and made rug wall coverings for friends and neighbors. He was a longtime member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Enterprise and the church choir. Survivors include several cousins and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Loretta. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Rev. Neil Varnum will officiate. Burial will be in the Enterprise Cemetery. Visitation is planned at the church Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. The Carlson Funeral Home, Rhinelander, is in charge of arrangements.
