(Chum) Schutte, Pickerel, died Wednesday at Langlade County Memorial hospital. The 79-year-old town of Langlade resident was born June 15, 1896, in Lily, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Schutte. During World War I, he was an army private for a motor transport unit from Aug. 14, 1918 to May 29, 1919. On Sept. 29, 1950, he and the former Gertrude Knobel were married in Elcho. Before working for the Langlade County Highway department, he farmed and loggined in the Lily area. Since 1950, he and his wife had operated Schutte's Lodge on Big Twin Lake. Mr. Schutte was a member of the American Legion post at Wabeno and St. Mary's Catholic church, Pickerel. Surviving are his wife; and nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother. Services are Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's church, Pickerel. Burial will be in the Lily cemetery. Friends may call at the McCandless-Zobel and Bradley funeral home after 3:30 p.m. Friday.
