Glider and observation pilots were trained at the small field. Small Piper Cub airplanes were used to train the pilots, who learned to fly the small planes and would then fly solo in a variety of modes. Observation pilots were trained to fly low, following the contours of the area. Several fatalities resulted from hitting barns or fences. Other pilots were trained as glider pilots. flying to the highest altitudes of the planes ability, cutting engines and gliding back to the training fields. As a youngster I would climb our family apple tree and watch the pilots practicing. Several fatalities occurred at the field with personnel walking into or being hit by the propellors of the planes. At the end of the war the field, which was greatly improved reverted back to civilian use. In 1946 I flew with a pilot in an old biplane and photographed the Senior High School from the air for the school photography club. Later, during the cold war it became the Radar Station noted in the Antigo Daily Journal in July.

My mother is Judith Freida KOCH, daughter of Darrell and Irene (KEOUGH) KOCH. Norman and Freida KOCH raised my mother, and her two sister and brother. Mom talks fondly of her Aunt Grace. I have just started researching this side of the family. Deborah Slager Polo, IL

I have much information on Chauncey and Reuben's family history but nothing on Charles' family except he had a son Reubon and possibly a daughter Helen. His wifes name may have been Prudence. In 1880, he lived with his parents in Outagamie Co but, was listed in Acklay Town, Langlade Co, WI in 1900 census. When his parents celebrated their 50th wedding aniversary in 1903, the newspaper account stated that their son Aaron McDonald of Langlade was unable to attend the party because his 2 little daughters were sick. I do not know the name of his wife or his children. He did have a brother, Bower McDonald who also lived for a time in Langlade County and who worked in the logging camps. Their brother-in-law Charles Lyon/s also worked in the camps (logging and/or mining) in the 1890s. We are seeking any information on Aaron McDonald, his wife or children or when/where he died. Does anyone know if there are any records from the logging camps in Langlade or any possibility we might find logging/mining work records for Aaron, Bower or Charles?
Hi, Would someone be willing to do a lookup for me on the following: Cornelia Seeber - 1930 - Langlade County She should be about 79 and I don't know if she would be living with her son or not. If so, her son's name is Ernest J. Seeber. Also, she should be living around Antigo. Thanks for any help! Have a wonderful evening, Ken Spangler [email protected] Dallas, Texas
Hi, Would anyone here be able to help me find an obit for Cornelia Seeber? She died March of 1931, somewhere around the middle of March, in Antigo. Is there an archive that someone could look at or a newspaper that might have microfiche someone could look up an obit on? Any help would be appreciated. Also, if anyone knows about Cornelia Seeber (such as her 2 sons or 2 daughters) and would like to touch base, please do! Thanks for any help, Ken Spangler [email protected] Dallas, Texas

Hi, I am researching a Mrs. Frank Seeber (maiden name is Cornelia Forbes). Of course, I'd also be interested in her husband but she is the sister of my GG grandfather and I am trying to locate her so that I can locate where my gg grandmother is. What a mouthful! :-) Anyway, I found through a friend on the Winnebago Co. site that she died in Antigo and, I would assume, is buried there. She died in March 1931. I'm not sure about when her husband died or where. What I am trying to locate is a list of the cemeteries in Antigo and, if possible, someone who has transcriptions of those cemeteries or might be able to tell me where Cornelia is buried. I'd appreciate any help! Thanks bunches, Ken Spangler [email protected] Dallas, Texas
Thanks to the many who responded to WWI registration query. Lawrence did live in the Antigo area, not sure of which township although the parents lived in Neva.
I have been trying to get the draft registration for World War I for Lawrence Krause of Langlade County. I wrote to the Register of Deeds, who referred me to the Postmaster, who after four months said he didn't have any records of such. He suggested trying the Library or the Genealogical Society. Does anyone know for sure where I could obtain such a record before I try again? Thank you for your help. Joanne
