FRONEK DIES John R. Fronek, 86, route 2, Antigo, retired town of Ackley dairy farmer and former state assemblyman, died early this morning at Langlade County Memorial hospital following a brief illness. Active in township, civic and political affairs, he served for many years as assessor in the town of Ackley, and as a member of the Longfellow school board. He was elected to three terms in the Wisconsin State Assembly, serving from 1927 to 1933, and during this time, authored the Forest Crop law. Mr. Fronek also served as a director of Antigo Milk Products Cooperative, and of the Langlade Farmers Co-op store, and was principal organizer of many cheese cooperatives in Langlade county. A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Vaclav Fronek, he was born May 11, 1883, in Czechoslovakia. At the age of four, he came to this country with his parents, and the family settled in Coal City, Ill. He spent his youth there, and worked as a coal miner until coming to Langlade county in 1900. Mr. Fronek operated a dairy farm in the town of Ackley from that time until his retirement in 1955. In October of 1905, he was married at Tisch Mills, Wis., to the former Emma Honzik, who died June 1, 1931. On Nov. 26, 1935, he was married in Antigo to Mrs. Hattie Martin, who survives. Surviving besides his wife, Hattie, are one daughter, Mrs. Clara Steber, route 1, Antigo; six sons, Harry, John Jr. and Raymond of route 2, Antigo, Edward and Norman of Antigo, and Ervin, Phoenix, Ariz.; two step-daughters, Mrs. Helen Werner, Sarasota, Fla., and Mrs. Hazel Andrews, Shawano; one step-son, George Martin, Shawano; one brother, James Fronek, route 2, Antigo; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Bulzeleni and Mrs. Fred Leverenz of Chicago, and Mrs. Rose Graham, Ceresco, Mich.; 28 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the McCandless-Zobel and Bradley funeral home where friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Surviving are six sons, William, town of Antigo, Ernest and Fred, Antigo, Adolph, Rib Lake, Herbert and Markus, Milwaukee, one daughter, Mrs. August Mattefs, Oshkosh, 14 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Preceded him in death were his wife and three children who died in infancy. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock at the McCandless & Zobel funeral home, the Rev. Two children preceded her in death. Carl died in infancy, and Bertha, Mrs. John Hartman of Polar, passed away three years ago. She was married in Germany to Ernest Frisch in 1881, and in 1883 they came to the United States, settling on a farm in the town of Antigo. They have lived there and in the city of Antigo since. Surviving her are her husband seven children, Adolph of Rib Lake, Lena, Mrs. August Mattefs, Oshkosh, Ernest Jr., Antigo, Fred, town of Antigo, William, town of Antigo, Herbert of Milwaukee, and Marcus, West Allis; 14 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and one brother, Fred Volkmar, town of Antigo. Mrs. Frisch was a member of the Peace Lutheran congregation and the Ladies' Aid of that church. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at St. Mary's Catholic church. The Rev. Emil Shimek will conduct the services, and on Saturday morning at 9 o'clock he will celebrate a solemn requiem high mass. Burial will take place at the Stengl cemetery. Emma Honzik was born October 27, 1883, in the town of Gibson, Manitowoc county. She lived there until she was sixteen years of age, when the family moved to Antigo to make their home. She has lived in this vicinity ever since. On October 10, 1904, she was united to John Fronek at Antigo. To this union seven children were born. They are: Harry, Mrs. George Steber (Clara), John, Edward, Norman, Erwin and Raymond, all of the town of Ackley. She is also survived by her father, Wenzel Honzik, Manitowoc; four sisters: Mrs. Emil Kloida, Mrs. Frank Kuntiz, and Mrs. Mary Cholupka, Manitowoc, and Mrs. John Blaha, Antigo; and four brothers: Anton Honzik and Wenzel Honzik, town fo Gibson; and George Honzik of Manitowoc. He signed Theodore on my grandmothers marriage license. He lived in Elcho and is listed on the 1910 and 1920 census. His daughter Estelle and son-in-law, Otto Stroebe lived with him in 1920. The daughter Nina Roes or Rose lived next door in 1920. I don't have an exact date of death but believe it was in the 1920's as the family moved west by 1930.
