Zoern Sr., 65, of 142 Fred street, died Saturday afternoon at the Langlade County Memorial hospital following a long illness. He was born in Antigo on March 21, 1909, the son of the late Joseph and Catherine Zoern. A life-long resident of Antigo he married the former Elizabeth Steckbauer on Nov. 14, 1929 in Antigo. She survives. Mr. Zoern was a butcher and worked at the Meyer Meat Market. He later worked for the Antigo Rendering Works for a number of years before retiring in 1971 due to ill health. Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Ted (Patricia) Evers, and Mrs. Mike (Mary) Sable, both of Little Chute; six sons, James and Irvin A. Jr., both of route 2, Antigo; John J., Bryant; Donald and Gerald, both of Little Chute; and Kenneth, Appleton; three sisters, Mrs. Emmet (Evelyn) Belott, Mrs. Duane (Lorraine) Ellis, and Mrs. Oliver (Virginia) Shampo, all of Jackson, Mich.; a brother, Harvey, Jackson, Mich; and 27 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father in 1947, his mother in 1973, a brother, Joseph, in infancy, and a brother, Walter J., in 1973. Mr. Zoern was a member of St. John's Catholic church, Antigo, where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Linus Steckbauer will officiate with burial in the Queen of Peace cemetery. Friends may call at the McCandless-Zobel & Bradley Funeral home after 3 p.m. today. Hoffman, 86, of 1015 Fifth avenue, who died Monday, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic church. The Rev. Norman Krutzik will officiate, and burial will be in Queen of Peace cemetery. Friends may call at the McCandless-Zobel and Bradley funeral home after 2:30 p.m. today. The former Josephine Wanninger was born Feb. 23, 1885, in Antigo, a daughter of the late Frank and Mary Wanninger, and was a lifetime resident of Antigo. On Sept. 5, 1905, she was married at St. Mary's Catholic church to Frank J. Hoffman, and the couple operated the Hoffman Hotel here. Since the death of her husband on Dec. 10, 1930, Mrs. Hoffman continued the hotel business here, and the Hoffman Hotel has been in continuous operation for the past 58 years. Mrs. Hoffman was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church, the Rosary Society of the church, the Women's National Catholic Society of Foresters, the Royal Neighbors of America and the Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving her are a daughter, Mrs. Robert H. (Margaret) Blair, of Bay City, Mich.; and daughter-in-law, Mrs. Evelyn Hoffman of Antigo; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a daughter, Marian, in infancy; two sons, Joseph in 1951 and Mike in 1958; a sister, Mrs. Mary McCormick; and seven brothers, Frank, Rudy, Joseph, Wenzel, George, John and William Wanninger. H. P. Freeling officiating. Burial services were held at Manitowoc Wednesday afternoon, Evangelist Pearl Bieble being in charge. Frank Ryder was born at Manitowoc, December 17, 1858, and died September 26, 1932. At the age of fourteen years he entered the butcher trade with the late John Pitz of Manitowoc, and at eighteen he opened his own shop. In 1904 he came to Antigo, where he continued his vocation until 1929, when he retired from active business. Mr. Ryder was united in marriage with Margaret Kohlman, at Manitowoc, in 1879. His widow, two daughters, and two sons survive him. The children are: Mrs. William Leslie, Hammond, Indiana, and Miss Corrine Ryder of this city; Joseph, Manitowoc; and Leo, city. Four sisters and one brother, all of Manitowoc, also survive, together with seven grand children and one great grandchild. The sisters are: Mrs. Leon Kadow, Mrs. Jacob Stueber, Mrs. Martin Quker, Mrs. Jacob Dirkman, and his brother, Paul. He was 100 years old. Born Sept. 13, 1906 in Enterprise, he was a son of the late William and Anna (Haase) Mistely. He attended Enterprise school and graduated from Rhinelander High School. Mr. Mistely served in the U.S. Army for 41 months during World War II and later lived in Janesville, where he was employed by General Motors for two years. He returned home to Enterprise where he was employed in construction and painting and worked in the woods. He performed on his accordion in a polka band for 46 years and also cooked for a deer hunting camp for 57 seasons. Mr. Mistely enjoyed hiking and skiing and traveling. The sides of his barn were covered with murals he painted and he regularly designed and made rug wall coverings for friends and neighbors. He was a longtime member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Enterprise and the church choir. Survivors include several cousins and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Loretta. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Rev. Neil Varnum will officiate. Burial will be in the Enterprise Cemetery. Visitation is planned at the church Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. The Carlson Funeral Home, Rhinelander, is in charge of arrangements. She was 87 years old. She was born May 31, 1919, in Ashland, a daughter of the late John and Grace (Webster) Moore. On Sept. 18, 1948, she married Donald Schroeder, who preceded her in death on aug. 31, 1955. A graduate of Antigo High School, Mrs. Schroeder attended Langlade County Normal School. During World War II she lived in Washington, D.C. and worked as a secretary for the Department of Defense. She later returned to Antigo, where she was employed at McLellan's Dime Store, as a secretary at Hyland Lakes Dairy Products and as a bookkeeper-teller at Peoples Bank. Mrs. Schroeder was a life-long member of Antigo United Methodist Church, and a member of the Jewel Chapter Number 19 Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include a daughter, Donna Shetter, Bryant, three sons, Mark (Stephanie) Schroeder, Gleason, Russell (Linda) Schroeder, Waupaca, and Todd Schroeder, Deerbrook, eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, a sister, Phyllis (Harry) Strahlendorf, Pewaukee, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Schroeder was preceded in death [by] two brothers, Clyde and James, a sister, Dorothy Gillespie, a son-in-law, Charles Shetter, and a great-grandson, Nathanial Shetter. On June 6, 1933, she married Milton Kutil at St. Mary Catholic Church in Antigo. He preceded her in death. Following marriage, Mrs. Kutil and her husband moved to Milwaukee and retired to Antigo in 1975. She enjoyed baking and cooking, ballroom dancing and the theater. Following the death of her husband, she enjoyed traveling. She was a member of SS Mary & Hyacinth Catholic Congregation and the Rosary Society. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Ruth Kutil, Eureka, Calif., a brother-in-law, Leon Kalkofen, Bass Lake, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Kutil was preceded in death by a brother, Francis (Charlotte) Person, and a sister, Scotty Kalkofen. He was 90 years old. He was born Feb. 15, 1916, in Kewaunee, a son of the late Adolph and Emma (Lazansky) Blahnik. On July 9, 1949, he married Irma Tatro at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Phlox. She survives. Mr. Blahnik attended Holy Rosary Parochial School and graduated from Kewaunee High School. He served for three years in the U.S. Army signal corps, attaining the rank of technical sergeant after completing tours in Europe and Africa. Mr. Blahnik was employed for 30 years with his father and brothers with Blahnik Manufacturing Company of Antigo, which specialized in building cabinetry and furnishings for churches, many of which are in use today. In the 1970s he began working for Johnson Brothers of Tomahawk doing finishing work on industrial buildings. A musician, he played with the Romy Gosz band in Manitowoc, with his brothers in the mel Blahnik Band of Antigo, and in several Kewaunee groups. In addition to dance bands, he played with Antigo's American Legion Band, the Cosmopolitan Orchestra, the VFW Band, and the Antigo Community Band. He was a member of the Leland Tollefson Veterans of Foreign Post #2653, Antigo. He enjoyed fishing,m skiing, playing a variety of musical instruments, following NFL football, and restoring his father's wood carvings, and making wood bowls and furniture. Survivors in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Linda Blahnik, Wausau, and Carol (Kevin) Zinda, Antigo, a son, James (Barbara) Blahnik, Antigo, five grandchildren, Shannon Blahnik, Danielle and Melanie Blahnik, Michael and Bryan Zinda and a sister, Marie (Richard) Narloch, Lady Lake, Fla. In addition to his parents, Mr. Blahnik was preceded in death by five brothers, Edward, Alfred, Melvin, Daniel, Adolph Jr., and three sisters, Sylvia Blahnik, Irene Dufek and Mable Totzke. He was 86 years old. He was born Nov. 14, 1919, in Antigo, a son to the late Homer and Elizabeth (Rosio) Turcotte. On Jan. 20, 1940 he married Alice Mary Zimmer in Dubuque, Iowa. She preceded him in death on Dec. 12, 1988 in Crandon. Mr. Turcotte was employed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in Elcho, and at the Vulcan Corporation in Antigo. During World War II, he served in France with the Indian Head Division of the U.S. Army, participating in the historic Battle of the Bulge. Following military service, he returned to the Antigo area and farmed in the town of Polar and later in the town of Rolling. Retiring in 1980, he built a retirement home overlooking Lake Alice. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Pickerel, the Leland Tollefson Post #2653 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Antigo, and a life-member of Paul Marmes Chapter 23 of the Disabled American Veterans, Antigo. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include a son, Michael (Lois) Turcotte, Kenosha and Pickerel, a sister, Frances Carlson, Wittenberg, eight grandchildren, Larry, Bobbie, John, Tom, Don, Michael II, Joseph, Arline, and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Turcotte was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Turcotte, a brother, Raymond Turcotte, three sisters, Evelyn Velente, Verna Curran and Wilhelmina "Pat" Turcotte. Weber, Wausau, died Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was 95 years old. She was born May 1, 1910 in the town of Rolling, daughter of the late Anton and Rosa (Fuchs) Weber. On March 4, 1935, she married John Weber at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Aniwa. He preceded her in death July 4, 1975. Mrs. Weber and her husband farmed in the town of Plover for more than 40 years. In 1980, she moved to Wausau, where she lived independently for 25 years. She was a member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Aniwa. After moving to Wausau, she joined St. Mary Catholic Church and later joined the Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, where she was a member of the Ministry of Praise and the Serra Club. She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, crocheting afghans, German cooking, volunteering, reading and crossword puzzles. Cheering on the Packers and making new friends were also important to her. Survivors include four children, Agnes (Roger) Stieber, Tomahawk-Florida, Francis W. (special friend, Nancy Blaschka) Weber, Mosinee, Margaret (Tom) Kerkes, Wausau, and Pauline (Jeffrey) Wergin, South Beloit, Ill., 12 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, John A. Weber, a granddaughter, Diane (Weber) Anderson, a great-grandson, Elliot Stieber, three sisters, Anna Andraschko, Rose Meidl and Pauline Heinrich, and a brother, Anthony Weber. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Wausau. Rev. Stephen Gross will preside. He was 83 years old. He was born March 5, 1918, in White Lake, a son of the late Anton and Edith (Goodwill) Schleinz. On Jan. 17, 1939, he married Bernice Waldvogel [at] St. Joseph Catholic Church, Phlox. She survives. Mr. Schleinz was employed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in Elcho and the Eagle River area for four years. He was also employed by Kraft Foods in Antigo as well as the Antigo Tie Plug Co. factory. In 1943 he began a career as a superintendent with the City of Antigo Parks and Cemetery Department, where he was instrumental in the development of the Lake Park complex and the little league baseball park. He was also employed at Queen of Peace Cemetery Association and served as the President of the Wisconsin Cemetery Association until he retired in 1982. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Gail (Gerald) Polzin, Appleton, Mary (James) Zelazoski, Antigo, Nita (John) Debbout, Fredericksburg, Va., and Lynn Euler, Antigo; three sons, Jack (Sally) Schleinz, Antigo, Michael (Kathy) Schleinz, Fredonia and Chuck (Jill) Schleinz, Neenah; a daughter-in-law, Lynna Lawrence, Antigo; two sisters, Jean (Clarence) Schumacher, DePere, and Marjorie Vehasselt, Fond du Lac, as well as 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Schleinz was preceded in death by a son, Carl Schleinz, in 1969 and two brothers, Jerry and Robert Schleinz. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. John Catholic Church, Antigo. Rev. Charles Hoffmann will officate. Burial will be in Queen of Peace Cemetery. Visition will be from 3:30 until 8 p.m., including a 4 p.m. parish wake service, on Friday and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Bradley Funeral Home. Schleinz, 92, an area native, died at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Seymour. She was born Jan. 14, 1890, in Phlox, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Goodwill who were pioneer residents of the area. On June 7, 1917, she married Anton G. Schleinz in Phlox. He preceded her in death on Sept. 27, 1970. Mrs. Schleinz resided in Phlox, Antigo, and Aniwa until 1977 when she moved to West De Pere to live with her daughter. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Aniwa. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Jean) Schumacher of West De Pere and Mrs. Bernard (Marjorie) Verhasselt of Eden, Wis.; two sons, Kenneth of Antigo and Jerry of Marysville, Calif.; 26 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Cyril (Aurelia) Leslie and Mrs. Anton (Lucille) Holup, both of Antigo; and a brother, Ray of Neopit. A son, eight sisters, two brothers, two grandchildren and a great grandchild preceded her in death. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John Catholic Church. Rev. James Golembeski will officiate and burial will be in Queen of Peace cemetery.
