Betty, Hi, I graduated from Shullsburg High School in 1975. At that time there was a family of Gilles living in Shullsburg, which is about eight miles from Gratiot. I believe the father's name was Tom, as was the son in the class above me. I don't know if they're the same family/branch, but you might want to check it further. There is a currently a Gille Cheese store centrally located between Shullsburg, Gratiot, and Darlington, just off of Highway 11.
