    3. I'm researching several CAREY families of Shullsburg area who I think were all related as many are found living very closely together on Shullsburg census records of 1870, 1900, 1905 and 1910. Family One: Owen Carey and Ann McGrath family: Children born between 1860-1877: Ellen, Katherine, Johanna, Thomas, John, Patrick, James, Anne, and Eugene Carey. Owen Carey was a carpenter, a farmer, and a grocer in Shullsburg. Born in Co. Waterford in 1826. Died in Shullsburg in 1910. Parents of Owen Carey were John Carey and Mary McCarty. Family was from Co. Waterford, Ireland. Owen had a sister, Mary Carey Burke, and possibly a brother, John/Jack Carey Family Two: Patrick Carey and Margaret Mahoney. Patrick Carey born about 1820. Children listed on the 1870 census: James, John P., Mary (Mrs. Charles Conlon), Thomas, and Annie, (Mrs. Thomas McArdle.) Family Three: John Carey and Ellen Carey. John Carey born about 1820. Children listed on the 1870 census: Michael, Nellie, John, Mary, William and Bridget Carey. Family Four: Mary Carey and Maurice Fitzgerald. Mary was born in Ring, Co. Waterford about 1800. She married Maurice Fitzgerald in Ring in 1824. Nine children: Mary, (Mrs. Leahy Burke), James, Bartholomew, Margaret, (Mrs. John Wall/Waul), Ellen, (Mrs. John Christopher), Catherine, (Mrs. Welsh), Grace, (Mrs. John Donnelly), Maurice, and John Fitzgerald. Family Five: Thomas and Ellen Carey. Thomas Carey was born about 1810. Children listed on the 1870 census: Mary and Daniel Carey Family Six: Michael and Elizabeth Carey. Michael Carey born about 1820. Children listed on the 1870 census: John, Michael, Mary, Patrick, and Katie Carey. I have more details on some of these families.
