I am looking for information on Francis and Johanna (Ninnis) Carveth. They came to America around 1846 and settled in the area of Shullsburg. They are my g-g-grandparents. They had three sons, Edwin, Silas and Arthur (Arthur is by g-grandfather). I need information in Silas -- don't know what happened to him. Arthur married Mary Ann Bottomley -- her parents were William and Sarah (Slater) Bottomley. There is a book called Midwest Pioneers: Collections of the State Historical Society of Wisconsin, 'Vol 25 -- in this book William and Sarah are mentioned along with William Jr. Can anyone help me locate this book or can someone do a lookup on the page numbers I have available? Thanks so much for your help Karen

This book title was made up by Ancestry.com, apparently based on the fact that ten volumes of Collections of the State Historical Society of Wisconsin (including volume 25) are included in the "Pioneering the Upper Midwest: Books from Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, ca. 1820-1910" portion of Library of Congress's American Memory Collection. The usual catalog entry is something like "Collections of the State Historical Society of Wisconsin." (The exact title used for the individual volumes varied over the years of its publication.) You may find this individual volume also cataloged (e.g., in WisCat) under its running title "An English settler in pioneer Wisconsin : the letters of Edwin Bottomley, 1842-1850." Anyway, the good news for Karen is that the entire text of this volume is available online from at least two different web sites. 1) The American Memory Collection -- start at the URL <http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/umhtml/lhbumbibTitles01.html> 2) Ancestry.com -- go to the URL <http://www.ancestry.com/search/locality/dbpage.htm?t=2&c=52&co=0&y=0&dbid=5214> Rollie
I knew about the letters of Edwin Bottomley. However, at this time, I cannot connect him to my ancestors. The pages that refer to William and Sarah are the ones I would like to read about as I am hoping it will tell about their trip across the ocean, as my g-grandmother was born on shipboard during the crossing.
