All of my family came to Wisconsin in the late 1840s. They remained in Lafayette County until 1856. From there they went to Iowa County near Mifflin. I just recently found out that a nephew of my gggrandfather Henry Johns must have sailed to the states with Henry and his wife and children. I found him living in Hazel Green on the 1850 census. He died 27 Dec 1903 and is buried at Provident Cemetery in the Town of Benton. By the way they came from the Parish of Germoe, Cornwall, England. =================================== Do you have a copy of the probate index for Lafayette County? I was just going to contact the County Court House in Darlington to see if they had the probate records on Richard Johns my ggrand father and William Johns the one I was just refering to. If you could check these out for me I sure would appreciate it. I notice they are for sale for $17.00 through the Lafayette County Genealogy Society but if they are on the index I would just order their records from the court house. =================================== Richard Johns was born in England in 1843. He died in Nov of 1903. =================================== William was born 25 Dec 1822 in England & died 27 Dec 1903 =================================== Jim, if you could check this out for I would apprciate it. =================================== I just started researching my family about a year ago. I started in England with the idea that would be more difficult that researching here in the states. I got fooled. It seems to be more difficult then it is in England. The churches kept pretty good records over there. I found my family stayed around two parishes which simplified the research. At this time I have them back to 1585. =================================== Where Are your ancesters from? There are a lot of John`s from Wales, Ireland, & even Germany. =================================== Well I guess I had better close for to night. Hope you have the info I`m looking for. =================================== Nice chatting with ya.
