    1. [WILAFAYE] HASTINGS & PETTEYS, 1830s-60s
    2. Ken Nordtvedt
    3. I'm trying to understand connections among the HASTINGS who came to Lafayette Co in 1830s --- Aaron V, Sylvanus, David, Temperance, Sally all appeared as census heads of household? Where did they go by 1860s? I am also researching family of Joseph PETTEY who arrive in Lafayette Co in 1830s from Yorkshire, England. What happened to the children of John PETTEY, son of Joseph, and Almira (HASTINGS) Pettey, daughter of Temperance, after 1870 when John PETTEY died?

    1. [WILAFAYE] FROM LIST MOM - PLEASE READ!
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members: It is that time of year when many researchers get that first new computer and they begin signing on to the mailing lists by the dozens. They are excited and want to share and become involved overnight. Please be understanding. They will not follow the rules because they do not know them yet. Know that I will be connecting with each of them as they subscribe, letting them know how we run our mailing lists. If something slips through, like a roll call, an advertisement, a political or religious statement, please let it go by without response by you. I will take care of it from this side. I look forward, as you do, to learning what these new researchers might have on our ancestral lines. I do not want to discourage them from sharing, for they just might hold the key for one of us. Again, I want to thank each of you for helping to make our mailing list the friendly and helpful list it is. I am blessed to be your list mom. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

    1. [WILAFAYE] Fwd: HASTINGS, PETTEYS of 1840s
    2. Ken Nordtvedt
    3. Researching HASTINGS brothers Aaron V, Sylvanus, David of Gratiot area during 1830s and 1840s. I want to connect one of these men with Temperance HASTINGS who was in 1850 and 1860 census of Lafayette Co with large family. I am also researching the PETTEY family which lived near the Hastings. Joseph and Grace Pettey arrived Lafayette Co in 1830s. In 1850s John Pettey, son of Joseph, married Almira Pettey, daughter of Temperance. Around 1870 John Pettey dies. Almira Hastings Pettey marries Charles Lucia Ken Nordtvedt

    2. David Byers
    3. Hello, I am new to the list. I am looking for information on John Cullen born about 1816 in Ireland. According to the 1860 Census he was a miner. He was married to Sarah (?Maiden Name) born about 1820 in Ireland. I would like to find out when they immigrated, the name of the ship and where in Ireland they were from. They had 8 children according to the census. They were Sarah, Ann, George, (?), Joseph, John, Hugh and Thomas. Any additional information anyone could provide me on this family would be greatly appreciated. Thank you David Byers dcbyers@speedeenet.com

    1. FW: Monteith and/or Bleiler Family
    2. Dona & Warren
    3. I am looking for information on the William Boyd Monteith, who married Mary Bleiler and made their home in Adams Township, Green Co., WI. They lived in Township 3 North, Range 6 East, I believe in section 24. I am Wm's G-grand daughter, as St Clair was my Grandfather. Their other children were, Jessie, St Clair, William, Harry, Robert (died as a child) John, Edward, Isabella, George and Andrew. As I understand they all married and had families, would really like to get in touch with any of the existing family of either Monteith and/or Bleiler. William's father was Andrew Monteith and Isabella (Hendry) Monteith his mother settled in Grant County, WI. William had many brothers and three sisters and all but one brother came to America from 1850 to 1852 from Scotland. I do have a lot of information to share and would like to have any additional info. that could help me in my quest. Thanks, Dona ============================== Support free genealogy on the Internet! 1. Murder & Lynching in Lafayette County
    2. Paul Lyne
    3. Wanted to let the list know that I sent Cindy Johnson a series of articles I copied from The Pick & Gad newspaper (published in Shullsburg) from 1891-1892 about a murder that occured just outside Darlington and the subsequent lynching of the killer. The killer was taken from the Lafayette Co. Jail and hung from a nearby tree. A few of the lynchers were eventually tried but found not guilty due to temporary insanity and sent to Mendota "Insane Asylum" in Madison for a short time. Cindy has posted the articles at the ALHN WI site at: http://www.usgennet.org/~alhnwius/newsclips.html The original victim was named James Meighan and the man lynched was named Anton Siebolt. A number of other names are mentioned - the lynchers, the jury, etc. Thanks to Cindy for posting it and check it out - were your ancestors involved? Paul Lyne pwlyne@facstaff.wisc.edu
