This year instead of sending out a card to each of you I am sending you a site I found. As I walked through it's pages my soul was stirred so deeply. I too have forefathers who have died for this country, not only in war but in the taming of its frontiers. I send this to you with pride of my ancestors, your ancestors and all those men and women who have given their lives to lay the foundation of what you, I and our descendants so enjoy - freedom. This weekend as you visit the graves of your loved one and heroes take a moment and stop by a lonely grave and place a flower in memory of when they walk this earth with us. We are one family. http://home.ptd.net/~nikki/memorial.htm Kathleen Burnett List Mom To learn more about my world, visit http://dwp.bigplanet.com/kburnett or my world outside of my home http://kathleenburnett.homestead.com/RealEstate.html or to see a list of the Mailing Lists I am List Mom for visit http://mailing_lists.homestead.com/lists.html I will do lookup for you in any of the following books in my genealogy library. http://kbiambooks.homestead.com/library.html or join the Genealogy Chat Friends Club at http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/genealogychatfriends or visit my Utah page with great Utah Links http://kbiamutah.homestead.com/index.html
I was recently researching my Irish ancestors who came to America from County Cork in the late 1840's, settling first in Lafayette County, Wisconsin. One of them was Margaret KELLY, older sister of my great-great grandfather, Patrick D. KELLY. Our family lore said that she married a Dennis HAGERTY. In fact, a Dominican nun at Sinsinawa, Wisconsin (in the neighboring county to the west) showed me a list of old records from marriages performed by Rev. Samuel Mazzuchelli, a well known pioneer priest, born in Italy, who was responsible for establishment of several churches and schools in the area. On the list was a marriage of Dennis HAGERTY to Margaret KELLY on August 20, 1854 at the then ten-year old St. Augustine Church in New Diggings (where my great grandparents would marry in 1871). This was apparently the only marriage performed by that great soul for my family, although at least three of the family married in that church. I have not located an 1860 census record for the HAGERTY's, but in 1870 at New Diggings they were enumerated as "Higgerty". Margaret was listed as 37 (the birth years of Margaret and her siblings, John and Patrick, skip around from census to census, so they had some trouble reckoning their age), and she had two children, Hannah (12) and Mary (8). The children were for some reason enumerated at a neighbor's house (Timothy Driscoll) ), along with their grandmother Catharine FLEMING KELLY (whose husband, Daniel KELLY, had died in Ireland). There was no sign of Dennis. Our family lore says that he was lost in the Civil War. Margaret KELLY HAGERTY is buried in the cemetery beside the Immaculate Church at Blessing, Black Hawk County, Iowa, near where Patrick KELLY farmed. She is listed on the stone as Margaret "Hegarty", 1829-1914. Hannah C. (HAGERTY) THORNTON, Dec. 19, 1857 to Mar. 21, 1937, is buried beside her. Here's the odd part: My family left only a very few civil records for the early years in Wisconsin, so the parish information has been invaluable. But while I was checking the (well indexed) records at the county seat in Darlington, I found a marriage for Jeffrey SULLIVAN, farmer, resident of New Diggings, born County Cork, Ireland, son of John SULLIVAN and Johanna MURPHY, to a Margaretta HAGGERTY, daughter of Daniel KELLY and Catharine FLEMING. This is beyond coincidence!! The marriage occurred on October 27, 1874, and was witnessed by John SHEA and Johanna KELLY (probably the Johannah LYNCH who married Margaret's brother John in 1856). So evidently Margaret remarried to a SULLIVAN, but by the time she died she was using the HAGERTY name again. I found an 1850 census entry in New Diggings for Jeffrey and Bridget SULLIVAN, born in Ireland. I have not yet been able to locate any children for Jeffrey, and Jeffrey does not seem to be in the New Diggings census for 1880, with or without Margaret. If anyone knows of this man or his family, please contact me. Kevin P. Kelly, g-g-son of Patrick D. Kelly

Hi Listers, Seeking relatives/descendants of Norwegians and Danes lost on the ship Norge 28 June 1904 en route from Norway to U. S. My grandfather, Ener Nyborg, who was living in the Argyle/Wiota area at the time, was expecting two brothers on this ship, who unfortunately were among those lost. Per Sebak in Norway is writing a book on the sinking, and we are trying to find anyone related to the passengers who were on the ship. I'm looking for any information from Lafayette County sources (e. g., old news articles, references in old books, etc.) about any Lafayette County connections to this ship. Can listers dust off their resources and check them? It would be much appreciated, as I am over 130 miles away, and can't come to Darlington for some time to check resources myself. Any help would be much appreciated! I'm also looking for someone who would be interested in being the County Coordinator for the Lafayette County GenExchange. I am temporarily serving as the Lafayette CC, but GenExchange needs someone who lives closer to the area and is interested in developing the County. Volunteers are also welcome. Anyone can add records to the site using the online templates, or download the templates to work offline. I've been very busy with the state website, and am also CC for Kenosha County. GenExchange believes in free access to genealogy records on the net, and we are all working very hard to make records accessible. There are websites for every state and every county in every state, and foreign countries, all connected. Check us out! Looking for info on Elmer Pinney, b. September 10, 1864, Wayne Township, Lafayette County, Wisconsin. I believe he was my great grandfather. His father may have been John Pinney, b. 1840, Wayne Township, m. Jane. And John's father may have been Albert G. Pinney, who married Lucy A. Jones December 27, 1836 in Astabula, Ohio, and was granted a land patent in Lafayette County in 1841. If all my "ifs" are correct, that's pretty interesting to me because the family story was that Elmer was an Irish immigrant. But I can't find any trace at all of an Irish immigrant by that name. Elmer was married to Mary Vrbka, b. 1868 in what was then Austria but was generally Czeckoslovakia, and her family immigrated to Nebraska. They were divorced before 1950, and the family has lost all trace of what happened to him. I can only trace him to the 1910 census, when he was living in Canyon Creek, Madison County, Idaho. Any info would be appreciated.
Hello All, Don't know how many of you are out there for this little patch of Wisconsin, but I have ancestors from LaFayette Co. Thought I'd post my names and see if any 'cousins' are looking, too. John William GILMORE b. abt. 1850 in Massachusetts d. before 1920 in South Dakota (?) Sometime after he was born and before he died <g> he lived in Wiota, WI. He was married in Argyle on 10/27/1877 to Anna MARTIN b. abt. 1850 in Wiota d. 1921-1922 I believe her father may have been John Martin of Wiota, but am not sure. Any information on either of these two, including anything that would verify the above information would be greatly appreciated. I have lots of information on their descendents, most of whom settled in WI, MN, and CA. Happy to share. Also interested in history, geography, folk stories, etc. from the area. Thanks, Ethel

Anyone on the list connected to the name Nugent? If the name Hillmeyer and Mansfield or Leamy ring a bell, please email me. Sincerely, Rose DeRocher
I am looking for information about Thomas Lundrigan, he was an irish immigrant who first lived in Canada, he married about 1845 and had at least two children, Mary and William by 1850. One of his census listings said that he was naturalized in 1850. His wife's name is Jane, she was Canadian. Any information will be significant. How can I find the naturalization records?
