James: I purchased the Probate Index for Lafayette County that Fran Matl put into the computer and there is a Henry G. Vinger listed. It's the Index with a blue cover. Mine is the 3rd printing July 1991. james a. nethery ----- Original Message ----- From: "James Ronnerud" <swtsales@mhtc.net> To: <WILAFAYE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, May 28, 2001 9:03 PM Subject: Re: [WILAFAYE] Vinger (Henry) > Jim, > I checked the Probate Index and there is no listing for Henry G Vinger. > Other Vingers tho. > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "James Nethery" <jneth3@home.com> > To: <WILAFAYE-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Monday, May 28, 2001 6:25 PM > Subject: Re: [WILAFAYE] Vinger (Henry) > > > > John: I checked the marriage index and there is a marriage for Henry G. > > Vinger to a Alice Leila Murray on 11 February 1920. Don Johns: Saw your query and was wondering if you have any Johns from near Dayton, Ohio. My great great grandmother Mary Eleanor Johns was born 18 March 1831 near Dayton. Her father was Powell Johns and her mother's last name was Williamson. They were both born in Penn. Mary E. Johns married William Knight McFarland 21 April 1852. They moved to Waukon, Iowa where William died and Mary died in Winthrop, Ia 08 March 1922. Any connection??????? james a. nethery ----- Original Message ----- From: "Don Johns" <donfromwi@webtv.net> To: <WILAFAYE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, May 28, 2001 11:44 PM Subject: Re: [WILAFAYE] 1880 Census lookups > Ethel, > My name is Don Johns from Manitowoc, Wi. Hi Don, I didn't find your William and Mary in Benton, but I did find a James and Belinda and family. Let me know if they are of interest to you and I will transcribe to the list. James, They're the right ones!! Alice Leila was one of my father's Aunts. Henry Vinger shows up on a family history that was written by one of my father's aunts, but his connection was not noted. He is connected to a farm owned by a member of the Jolly family (Alice Leila's mother's family). I was trying to determine how he came to be associated with that farm. This helps a great deal. Thanks for the info on the marriage and probate! Best Regards! John Murray
John: I checked the marriage index and there is a marriage for Henry G. Vinger to a Alice Leila Murray on 11 February 1920. Sounds like these are the two you are looking for. Also found a probate index for Henry G. Vinger - 1946 E 9316. You should be able to write to the Darlington Court House and get a copy of the probate if you want. james a. nethery ----- Original Message ----- From: <JKSMurray@aol.com> To: <WILAFAYE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, May 26, 2001 12:03 PM Subject: [WILAFAYE] Vinger (Henry) > Hello all, > > First, I'd like to thank the list Mom for putting the historic map website on > the list...I didn't know about it, but it looks great. > > Second, I have come across the name Henry Vinger a couple of times in > attempting to research my Jolly/Murray families in Lafayette County. John, I too am seeking Schwartz information, but my search has been centered in Iowa. I'm on the Wisconsin search for two other families: Good and Cook. My Schwartz is LouisSCHWARTZ born 30 Oct 1830/1831 Baden, Wurtenburg, Germany died 1914, Marshalltown, Iowa He immigrated to the U.S. in 1848. If you should find a brother/uncle/son in your search which might be my Louis, please let me know. Thank you very much. Hello again, I have Alfred Penniston with a date of death of 30 Dec 1942 with an age at the time of death of 3 months, 28 days, 77 years. I believe that Alfred was married to one of the daughters of Harriet Jolly and Thomas W. Murray. Thomas and Harriet had 17 children between 1870 and 1895 with 15 living into adulthood (my grandfather was the youngest). I can't find any of the descendants of his siblings. So, now I am looking at names that I can't figure out that are in old family documents. Hopefully, I will find some kind of lead to follow. Thanks in Advance! John Murray
Hello all, First, I'd like to thank the list Mom for putting the historic map website on the list...I didn't know about it, but it looks great. Second, I have come across the name Henry Vinger a couple of times in attempting to research my Jolly/Murray families in Lafayette County. When my Grandfather Charles Murray died in 1958 someone put together a list of family names with dates of birth and death. I can't figure out exactly who they all are (Henry Vinger for one). I have Henry Vinger dying on 26 Dec 1945 (place not given) at the age of 9 months 8 days and 75 yrs. He apparently owned a farm that was once John Jolly's farm in Fayette Township (according to the 1776-1976 Lafayette County Bicentennial Book). My Great Grandmother was Harriet Jolly (born 1 Sep 1850; died 5 Dec 1917; married to Thomas Walter Murray). I believe that Henry Vinger married one of Harriet Jolly and Thomas Murray's daughters and maybe inherited the family farm. I am hoping that someone knows of Henry and can give me more info on him. Thanks in advance! John Murray
I second that recommendation. The Perry-Casteneda map collection is fabulous and if they don't have it, they probably have a link to it! I've used it extensively teaching history and geography. Monica Odani
Thank you very much for the lookup on the SCHWARTZ family off of the 1880 census. It is a HUGE help to me!!! You are an angel!! John Murray
Dear List Members, Many of you may already know about the "Historical Maps of the United States" site located at http://www.lib.utexas.edu/Libs/PCL/Map_collection/histus.html But I just found it and it is wonderful. I have spent the last few hours going through some of the maps and it helped me so much to understand some of the strange migration patterns of my ancestors. Enjoy, and have a wonderful weekend. Dear List Members, Remember as you think about posting a message to the list regarding Memorial Day, that some of our members are not from the United States. We have members from England, Canada, Mexico, Scotland, Ireland and Australia, just to name a few. Please keep this in mind as you send your messages regarding honoring those of our ancestors who fought in wars, served in the military and gave their lives for our beliefs and for the freedoms we hold dear. Our members from other countries also have ancestors who fought, and gave their lives for the beliefs and for the freedoms of their country. We in the genealogical community need to continue to remember that we are a world wide family which is formed from those of many nations, cultures, beliefs and history. This Country was built by those who migrated here from lands around the world. Their history is a part of us as our history is a part of them. I ask you to remember all those who have given their lives in military service world wide this weekend and please show the respect due to each of our members, no matter where they are from or what country they or their ancestors fought for. I appreciate each of you. Have a save weekend. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
If anyone out there needs a lookup from the 1880 Fed Census, I am willing. Please send me an email at my own address so I can keep track of your request, but I will reply to the list. For the subject, enter the last name in CAPS. I don't have an index, so please provide as much info about names, places, dates as you can. I will have to have at least a town or township name. PS - Just had the thrill of finding my great-grandpa and family. I already have a record of them in 1885, but wouldn't you know, his mother was living with the family in 1880. That means I now have a lead for her parents' places of birth. Ethel Portland, OR
It seems as if the latest virus problem has calmed down, but it would only take one or two of you opening an attachment with a virus to set it off again. It is not over, but it has calmed down. Just this morning I received another on - and did as I suggest you do DELETED IT. Please remember: DO NOT OPEN ANY ATTACHMENT unless you know 100% what it is and who is from and have run a virus scan on it. I don't care how inviting the subject line is, "homepage", "Read this", "The Docs you ask for", etc. . Also please remember that this virus is not being spread via Rootsweb, but is being spread via attachments that are being sent out by rootsweb members. If you want additional information on what a virus is go to http://ca.com/virusinfo/faq.htm it is an informative site. If you don't have a good Virus Scan, I use Norton Anti virus, you need to get one that you trust and fast. If you are not sure what kind to get, you might want to join the virus discussion list to get additional information on the different programs. VIRUS-DISCUSSION-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM Again, I appreciate your support as we have gone through the last month or so fighting this problem. I also appreciated your willingness to do all that is necessary to help me fight the problem. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
