Jim, Thanks much for info on Richard Johns. He is my ggrandfather. I know he had a farm in Lafayette County somewhere around Leslie, not to far south of Rewey which is in Iowa County. I believe he was also married in Lafayette County on 2 Feb 1869 to a Mary Jane Nicholson. As far as I know he died 3 Nov 1903 also in Lafayette County. =================================== Jim, Does the genealogy society in Lafayette County have a research staff that will look these things up? Or is it better to work directly with the people at the court house? I would like to use the fastest method because there is a Johns family runion on the 30th of June and I would like to supprise some of the family members with these documents. Supprisingly no other family member has ever researched the family that I know of. =================================== Thanks again Jm for your help. If you can advise me on what to do in obtaining these items I would appreciate it. =================================== Don Johns

My g.g. grandparents, Hannibal @ Elizabeth Orchard from Redruth, Cornwall, had nine children. Their oldest, Belinda, married a James Johns and migrated to southwest Wisconsin, they later moved to Oregon. Belinda's sister, Mary Orchard, moved to southwest Wis. and married Thomas Johns. They lived in Hazel Green. The Orchard's were also connected to the Goninen's who lived in that area. Ernie Orchard
Of interest to genealogical researchers in the area. This is not intended as spam but as an educational announcement. It is not our intention to offend anyone. The Walworth County Genealogical society has announced it will be holding an educational workshop on Saturday, the 18th of August at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Elkhorn. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Michael John Neill of Rio, Illinois, national lecturer, author, writer, columnist and instructor will be the featured speaker. He will be presenting four lectures for this day-long seminar. Two of the lectures are regarding land records: NSEW: Terminology, Applications & Implications in Public Land States" and Techniques for Land Records in Public Land States." Another lecture discusses records relating to a death which are invaluable to a genealogical researcher: "Getting the Body in the Grave: Funeral Homes, Mortuaries and Cemeteries." If you have trouble finding the village an ancestor came from, Neill will lecture on: "Finding That Village of Origin: A Generalized Study." Neill is an instructor at the Genealogical Institute of Mid-America (GIMA) held annually in Springfield, Illinois and is also on the faculty of Carl Sandburg College. He is a Web Columnist for the FGS Forum and is on the editorial board of the Illinois State Genealogical Society Quarterly. You can visit his Website at www.rootdig.com. The cost of the workshop is $25.00 and includes a luncheon of sandwiches, salads and beverages provided by the ladies' church group. The registration deadline is 1 August. After 1 August, the cost will be $30.00 with no lunch guarantee. No cancellations will be returned after 1 August. A genealogical vendor will be present to purchase any books, maps, preservation supplies and novelty items. WCGS publications will also be made available for sale. Door prizes will be given away, however, you must be present to receive them.
