The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's with Tillie appearing to be in her teens at the time. In addition to her name, someone has written the following on the back of the photograph. "daughter of August SJOLANDER and his wife Karrie, born at Holmen, Wis., August SJOLANDER was the son of Peter and Oleana SJOLANDER, early settlers at Holmen, Wis." and "Oleana SJOLANDER was my Grandmother's sister, lived in Holmen for many years before moving to Onalaska, Wis.". Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Tillie and her family as follows: Olitie SJOLANDER b. 7 Nov 1875 to parents C. A. SJOLANDER (b. 26 May 1851 in Norway) and Karen Pedersdatter QUALL (b. Jul 1851 in Norway). The couple had four children including, Olitie; Carl Beannard; Peter Albert; and Clara Aktavia SJOLANDER born between 1875 and 1880. C. A. SJOLANDER'S father was Peter E. SJOLANDER b. 24 Aug 1822 in Sweden and his wife as Anna OLSEN b. 30 Jun 1824 in Norway. C. A. SJOLANDER was their only child. The Peter immigrated to the USA in 1853, returned to Norway in 1863 and returned in 1865 with his wife and son, remaining in WI until their deaths. Census records provide the following information: 1880 census of Holland, WI: Peter SJOLANDER, age 57, a Retired Merchant, born Sweden, parents born Sweden Oleana SJOLANDER, wife, age 55, Keeping House, born Norway, parents born Norway + 1 servant 1910 census of Holland Township, WI: Oliana SJOLANDER, age 85, a widow, 1 child/1 living, born Norway, parents born Norway, to USA 1865 1910 census of La Crosse, WI: - living in the home of Mrs. J. TALLEY Tilly SJOLANDER, age 34, born WI, parents born Norway, a Furniture Co. Bookkeeper I am hoping to locate someone from the family so that this beautiful old treasure can be returned to the care of family.
