More information about the renovation and accompanying pictures will be posted on the Tri-County Genealogical Society website. During the Civil War, four members of the 3d Wisconsin Cavalry were buried here in what is now the G.A.R. lot: Hiram C. DAVIS who served under the name of John H. JOHNSON, Co F. George R. KELLY, Co F. John GRUMMONS, Co A. Josiah DAVIS, Co A. A listing of the known burials in the G.A.R. lot is at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~motcogs/metz_gar_members.htm "Found No Bushwhackers" The 1864 Diary of Sgt. James P. Mallery, Co A, 3rd Wisconsin Cavalry, gives details of the day-to-day life of the Wisconsin soldiers while stationed at Balltown, Missouri, as does "In the Devil's Dominions: A Union Soldier's Adventures in "Bushwhacker Country"" the Journal of Charles W. Porter, Co F, 3rd Wisconsin Cavalry. Copies of these two books can be obtained from the genealogy website above. A dedication of the new military monuments and G.A.R. lot in Balltown Cemetery is being planned for Veterans Day, November 11, 2008.
