This may be of no use to your research, but in case it is :: 25 miles, or so, north of La Crosse, ( toward Chippewa Falls ), is the small city of Independence, Wi. My mother's family lived there around 1900. One of their playmates was Romelle Schneider, who became wife of President Roosevelt's eldest son James ( Jimmy ) Roosevelt. The county is Trempealeau.
