City of La Crosse JACOB BRABANDER, cooper, Second street, near King, has been a resident of La Crosse since 1857, and has been in the same business during the whole time. He was born in Luxemburg, Germany, in 1822, son of Peter Brabander, also a cooper. Jacob learned his trade of his father, and spent seven or eight years working at his trade in different parts of Europe; came to the United States in 1856, and lived one year in Port Washington, Wis., before coming to La Crosse. His first wife was Katie Bushard. She died in 1872, leaving three children - Bertha (now in Germany), Minnie (now the wife of John M. Childres, of La Crosse) and Mary. His second wife was Anna Berkhaus. She died June 7, 1879, leaving four children - Jacob, Annie, Louisa and Katie. [I am not related to this family and have no further information.
