Hello: I am hoping to find someone out there who may be related to my ancestors. I have been trying to get my Mueller's back to Germany but have had many problems due to their common first and surnames... so I am now trying to find more information about them by searching for the families they married into in hopes that they married people from the same origins in Germany. It may be a long shot, but here goes: Adam Kroner (born approx 1848) married Minna Mueller Anton Hacker (born approx 1846) married Anna Hirth (also his siblings Franz Hacker (married?), Carolina Hacker (married?) and Catharina who married John Beddessem) Anna Keppel (born 1832) married Wenzel Netwel (her possible brother Johann Gottlieb Keppel who married a Maria Schwab) and lastly Frederich Sprehn/Sprain (born 1825) and married a different Mueller, but I believe a related family, this family's patriarch is: Adam Mueller (born 1804) who married an Elizabeth - I am trying to difinitively link him as a brother to my Johan/John Mueller and Juliane Schneider/Snyder... The Mueller family was one of the original settlers to the Barre Mills area and married a lot of similar original settlers. A lot of these people came from the Hesse Darmstadt area and I am hoping that by tracing these more uncommon surnames I will find my people. I would appreciate any help! Also, does anyone happen to have copies of the Biographical Histories of La Crosse county (one was published in 1892 and another in 1881) as I am trying to see if entries in them may help me. Thanks in advance. -Elissa

Another large group came from Bohemia and settled in Bostwick Valley. Is this also Barre Mills? My ancestress is Eleanora Mueller, daughter of August, and married to Wenzel Hoetzel. They are identified as coming from Austria, and one census states that they came from Bohemia. Their daughter, Mary, married a descendant of Bohemian families settled in Bostwick Valley. While having NO scientific or other credible proof of this, Wenzel may be a name common in Bohemia because all my Wenzels are from Bohemia. I have German ancestors from the Rhineland and from Darmstadt, Hessen, and I am trying to think of a Wenzel among them. I have no good method for this, but sometimes I have this sense by first names and last names as to which families come from Germany and which from Austria. I am sure these theories of mine could be debunked easily, but it is worth looking into the Bohemian group. Elissa, I have transcribed all of the biographies in the 1881 History of La Crosse County, as well as the full-book index at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wilacgs/ Click on "Research Resources", then "La Crosse County", then "Name Index to "The History of La Crosse County, Wisconsin," 1881". The book has been scanned and posted at: http://murphylibrary.uwlax.edu/digital/lacrosse/laxhist1881/0002000B.htm so once you find which page(s) you want to look at, it's right there for you. Good luck searching!
