Chandler, 78, of Onalaska, Wisconsin, died Tuesday, February 11, 1997, at the Bethany-Riverside Nursing Facility in La Crosse, Wisconsin. She was born April 5, 1918, in La Crosse to Alfred and Bessie (Smith) Evenson. On August 2, 1952, Evelyn married Walter Chandler and he preceded her in death on February 16, 1976. She then married Jesse Burroughs on January 3, 1981, and he preceded her in death on April 2, 1984. Evelyn was employed as a nursing aide at Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse. After her retirement she remained active serving as a volunteer for the La Crosse Area RSVP. She also enrolled in a course to become a minister and received her certificate of completion in 1988. Survivors include a daughter, ­Shirley Winkels of Winona, Minnesota; two sons, Wally (Barbara) Chandler of Melrose, Wisconsin; and Coby (Kathryn) Chandler of La Crosse; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lona Plompen of Lakeland, Florida; and Marion (James) Barnes of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin; three brothers, Arnold (Bessie) Evenson and Glenn (Betty) Evenson, both of Dade, City, Florida; and Irvin (Maisie) Evenson of Zepher Hills, Florida. In addition to her first and second husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two granddaughters. Funeral services will be Sunday, February 16, at 2:00 p.m. from the Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home in Caledonia, Minnesota. Rev. Mark Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Caledonia. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from noon until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.
