lol Some of us start younger than others. And some days it applies much stronger than others. I got it from a fellow genealogist. It was on a calendar where he worked and when he retired he thought it would be a great sig tag. He was right! Just out of curiosity, were your Roberts related or married into the Young name? Lita I have gone to find myself. If I get back before I return, please ask me to wait. I think the age of consent might have been younger but I'm not sure. Maybe the laws just weren't as strict. Lita I have gone to find myself. If I get back before I return, please ask me to wait. Doris--if you are not successful in La Crosse, I found that some of my La Crosse relatives were married in Winona for whatever reason, I do not know. Ruth
Thank you very much. Jacob Pataska and Alta Christofferson 1923 or 1924. I really appreciate this. You might try the courthouse. I don't think the library would have these types of records. Also, if they were married in a church, you could try checking there for a marriage record. cindy
What would be the easiest way to find a marriage license? My parents were married in 1923 or 24 most likely in LaCrosse or on the off chance Onalaska. Would the library have copies of them or the notice in the paper? I have gone the Vital Record way several times for other things and was not satisfied nor did they find things. Appreciate your help. Doris
The LaCrosse Library has a nice page also, which includes a Search Page Index. At the bottom, there is a button to click for Cemeteries, then Submit Search to see if there are any hits for LaCrosse County. Can find the page at http://lacrosselibrary.org/genealogy/ Darci --- Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Version: 6.0.725 / Virus Database: 480 - Release Date: 7/19/2004
There are two sites that have La Crosse, Wisconsin, area cemeteries online. Both have helpful features in addition to the cemetery listings. The one at the La Crosse City library is http://lplcat.lacrosse.lib.wi.us/genealogy/ The site can use a * to hunt for various spellings of names. Checking on the persons name in the cemetery listing will show who is buried in the nearby graves. It also has a brief history of most of the cemeteries and location maps for the cities. It also has listings of obituaries for many years. The obits can be ordered from the library for a nominal fee. Bob Selbrede has his site at http://webpages.charter.net/laxcounty/ His site covers the northern part of the county, but not have the cemeteries located in city of La Crosse listed. He has the names listed in alphabetical order for each cemetery, a photo of the entrance to each cemetery, a location map for the cemeteries, and written directions about how to get to the cemetery. I have some information on this man. as below. but recently i found out that he purchased lands in the LaCrosse area, supposedly 700 acres for an experimental farm I would welcome any further information from the LaCrosse area including knowledge if his newspaper is available anywhere. I cannot remain on the list because of volumes in my inbox so if you cold respond directly as well as the list i would appreciate it [email protected] I am now going to scout out the archives... if anyone is interested in this person and his early life, please refer to the il-cook-schaumburg rootsweb.com archives keyword HOFFMAN many thanks... Subject: francis a hoffman hoffmann aka Hans Buschbauer 1822 Francis (Franz) Arnold Hoffmann was born in Herford, Kreis Minden, Westphalia in the Kingdom of Prussia (d. 1901). In 1840 he emigrated to the United States and taught school in Addison, Illinois. He prepared for the ministry, probably under F. Schmid in Michigan. He then served as a pastor in Addison until 1847, then serving in Schaumburg, Illinois, from 1847 to 1851. He helped give a Lutheran character to several German congregations in northern Illinois. He ordained Elling Eielsen, a Norwegian lay preacher, in 1843. In 1849 he joined the Missouri Synod. In 1851 he resigned from the ministry due to illness. Later he was a lawyer, banker and statesman who helped co-found the Republican Party. He served as lieutenant governor of Illinois during the Civil War and retired from public life in 1875. He was also an agricultural writer and editor under the pseudonym Hans Buschbauer. He served as editor of "Haus-und Bauernfreund". (HAS ANYONE GIVEN ANY THOUGHT TO THE FACT THAT THIS MAN MIGHT HAVE ACTUALLY SPOKEN WITH LINCOLN"?) http://chi.lcms.org/history/tih030605.htm
Does anyone have any connections to these families? I am, in particular, looking for information on JC GUNN (also known as Joshua, John, Charles, George??) He died in 1929 in LX and is buried in the Catholic Cemetary. Was married to Mary Ellen JONES and to Lydia DAWES. Thanks. As a new subscriber, I wonder why the Automated Query page for LaCrosse County is not working. I would like to post a query about McKinney ancestors from the mid-19th century but am not able to. Perhaps someone can help me do so. Thanks in advance. Ted Mills
No, I don't know Lonette's parents. I do know that she was born in Christiana, (spelling) Norway and was 15 when she came to America.
