Hello, I am a new member of the WILACROS mailing list and looking for the ggg-grandfather of my wife. His original name is Georg MUELLER, born 18.4.1830 in Ried, Bavaria, Germany. He was married with Maria SCHROTT, born 21.2.1830 in Hörbach, Bavaria. They had five children: Theresia, born 18.10.1860 in Bavaria Georg, born 4.4.1862 in Bavaria Elisabeth, born 8.7.1865 in Bavaria Anton, born 13.6.1867 in Bavaria, died 2.7.1867 in Bavaria Johann Baptist, born 10.5.1869 in Bavaria Georg MUELLER and his family emigrated to Wisconsin. There they wanted to begin a new life. Georg MUELLER wrote a few letters to his priest in Bavaria. So we know that in Wisconsin he used the name John BETZINGER. We also know that on 2.12.1869 their son Johann Baptist died in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In the 1870 Census I could find the family of John BETZINGER as inhabitants of the city of La Crosse, Wisconsin. In the 1880 Census I cannot find a BETZINGER family who fits to the family of "my" John BETZINGER. In the 1870 city directory of La Crosse John BETZINGER is a labourer and resides in n w c Badger and Twelfth. In the 1876 city directory of La Crosse there is no John BETZINGER. Has anybody John BETZINGER or his children in his family tree? Can anybody help me to continue my search in La Crosse? Thank you very much for your help. Gerhard Heininger Bavaria, Germany

Hello Wisconsin Genealogists, I just came across this paragraph in a story from the Green Bay Press-Gazette from yesterday at HYPERLINK "http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071024/GPG 0101/710240631/1978"http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/apps/pbcs.dll/articl e?AID=/20071024/GPG0101/710240631/1978: "Copies of birth certificates will increase from $12 to $20 each, while copies of certificates for death, marriage and divorce will jump from $7 to $20, and the fee to expedite services will double from $10 to $20." Please contact the Governor's office TODAY and ask him to veto, or at least lessen, these fee hikes for copies of vital records. He will be signing the budget tomorrow morning at 9 AM at UW-Madison, and it will be too late by then. There is an online form to contact the Governor's office at HYPERLINK "http://www.wisgov.state.wi.us/contact.asp?locid=19"http://www.wisgov.state. wi.us/contact.asp?locid=19, or you can call his office at 608-266-1212, or fax to 608-267-8983. PLEASE PASS THIS MESSAGE ALONG TO AS MANY WISCONSIN GENEALOGISTS AS POSSIBLE TODAY. I know this message won't reach all of you in time, but I'm hoping that a mass mailing will get most of you and we can fan out the message from there. I apologize for the spam, but this is an emergency. Thank you for your help! Mary Rieder President Wisconsin State Genealogical Society No virus found in this outgoing message. Hi, I'm a lurker. Even was at N. La Crosse and/or Trempealeau probably before 1890, he helped make settling-in easier for his nieces and nephews. There was a Norwegian Lutheran church on the north side, I used to sing in the choir and Dr Amundson was the director also for Logan school. This was in the 1930-40's. I cannot remember the street but it was on a corner if that helps.
