I am starting with Hans )H.L. Gjestvang. born 1854 died may 1927. He married Anna Freng somewhere around 1887 maybe and they had 7 children. Cora, Luella, Mabel, Agnes, Esther, Amanda and Evelyn. I believe this is a relation to my Gjestvangs who are from the trempealeau area but I was wondering if there would be anyone that would be able to go to the court house and get the information off the death record to show who his parents were? Please. I would also like other information from the Gjestvangs from that area but wanted to start here. thanks in advance Bobi Hembd Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. More information about the renovation and accompanying pictures will be posted on the Tri-County Genealogical Society website. During the Civil War, four members of the 3d Wisconsin Cavalry were buried here in what is now the G.A.R. lot: Hiram C. DAVIS who served under the name of John H. JOHNSON, Co F. George R. KELLY, Co F. John GRUMMONS, Co A. Josiah DAVIS, Co A. A listing of the known burials in the G.A.R. lot is at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~motcogs/metz_gar_members.htm "Found No Bushwhackers" The 1864 Diary of Sgt. James P. Mallery, Co A, 3rd Wisconsin Cavalry, gives details of the day-to-day life of the Wisconsin soldiers while stationed at Balltown, Missouri, as does "In the Devil's Dominions: A Union Soldier's Adventures in "Bushwhacker Country"" the Journal of Charles W. Porter, Co F, 3rd Wisconsin Cavalry. Copies of these two books can be obtained from the genealogy website above. Christopher PAGE is found in the 1860 census of Onalaska, La Crosse Co, WI with his wife Sarah A. PAGE and children: Sarah (b c1842 NY); Moses A. (b c1844 NY); Christopher Marshall (b Nov 1849 "Sheboygan"); Rosella "Rose" (b c 1854 WI) and Frances (b c 1857 WI). The 1870 census shows Moses living with Emily/Emma in Farmington, La Crosse Co, but I cannot find any of the others that year. The son Christopher Marshall married Ella Irene TYLER in Osceola, Polk Co, WI, and I can follow his movements from there. I am interested in finding the parents: father Christopher is shown as 65 or 68 in the 1860 cs., born NY, and Sarah is 60 b. NY. I have been unable to find any trace of them before 1860 (no NY census when children shown born, no WI, not even in 1849 in Sheboygan. Is it possible, too, that Christopher Marshall is not their own son (looking at the respective ages)? Are there any descendants of Moses A? His children seem to have been: Frances C; Edwin L; Florence M and Earl Shepherd PAGE. (The above is a message I had posted on the message board in 2000. Marlene replied to me in 2002, but I apparently did not get the message until now. I have never gotten any further on this family.)

Their daughter, Mary (Sophia Louise Marie), married Peter Ledegar in Milwaukee in 1868. She and Peter lived in LaCrosse for many years, had 13 children nine of whom lived to adulthood. Mary died there in 1903. I'm sure there are still descendants in the area and would love to contact some of them. I'd particularly like to find pictures of Mary and Peter (dod 12/1929, Minneapolis) The daughters married, that I know of, men named Fred Miller, Omro Aiken, Emil Schroeder and Henry May. Mary was a great-great aunt of mine. I'd appreciate any help or contact information. Thank you. Karyl Karyl Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
