HI Jackie, Thanks for doing the Civil War Juneau Co. census. When I was in grade school in Mauston in the 30's, I used to know a Civil War veteran that lived a block and one-half from my home on Division Street, across the street from my grandmother. He was a very old man then with white hair and a long white beard, and he walked with a cane. He had a flag pole in the front yard and always flew the American Flag. He lived with his unmarried daughter, Frances. I knew him by Mr. Burritt, but wasn't sure of the spelling until I found him in the the census that you just posted. Thanks for letting me know that his name was John, and that he was a private in the Cavalry.
