    1. Peters of Juneau Co.

    3. Dear felow Juneau County researchers: I am Terry Thompson, listkeeper. My grandfather, Herman H. PETERS, was one of the 11 men who founded the Wonewoc State Bank in southern Juneau County. My mother was one of his three children, all born in Wonewoc. My great grandfather, Heinrich PETERS came to the US from Diersbuttel, Hanover (now Brandenburg), Germany. Heinrich bought a farm in Woodland Township in adjacent Saulk County about 1880 and was an early member of the Luthern Church of Wonewoc which served the German-speaking comunity in southern Juneau and norther Saulk Counties. Two cousins have been compiling our family history in the US and have found most of the living decendants of Heinrich. I have sent most of my Juneau County family history to Jackie for posting on the Juenau County GenWeb site under births, deaths, and marriages. If you have not already done so, I urge you to do the same. When I took on the German history, I found the job almost impossible because I do not read or speak German. On a visit to the town listed as Herman’s city of origin, Eyendorf located a few miles south of Hamburg, I was able to locate a genealogist (who spoke no English) and with the help of his English-speaking neighbor, contracted him to research the PETERS family back another 4 geneations. It was the best $50 I ever spent. Following are some of the family names related to the PETERS of Juneau County: BEHNKE, EGGERS, HAMBURG, HERREWIG, LANGE, LEMKE, MUELLER, PAGEL, ROEHLING, SCHROEDER, and TIMM
