Looking for information on Stephen and Ellen (Scanlon) MURPHY who lived in Juneau County from sometime in the mid 1850's to about 1871 when they homesteaded in Iowa. They had four children: Mary born in Ireland, Michael born in Ohio and Jeremiah and Bartholomew born in Wisconsin. They were listed in P.O. Wonewoc in the 1860 and 1870 census, although the farm Stephen owned was actually located east of Elroy. Stephen had neighbors Jeremiah and Bartholomew MURPHY who I suspect might have been his brothers. Many of the same names occur in both families. I know both Stephen and Jeremiah were from Co. Kerry, Ireland. Stephen's daughter Mary no longer appears in the 1870 census, but since she would have been about 21 years old, she may have been married, if she hadn't died previously. I have quite a bit of information about Stephen and family after they came to Iowa.
