Porter, pioneer resident of this village, who passed away on February 5, 1945, were held last Thursday afternoon at the home of her son, Merritt in Necedah, WI. Rev. Shot of New Lisbon officiating. Burial was made in Zion Cemetery, town of Armenia. Emily Catherine Lupient, daughter of Theodore and Mary [Madeleine] Lupient, was born in Portage, WI, December 6, 1851. At the age of 18 years, she moved with her parents to Necedah. On October 7, 1871, she was united in marriage to Joshua W. Porter of Necedah, in which village they lived for about three years. Later they moved to Barnum, Adams County, where they remained for 3 years. In 1877, they moved to Clark County where they made their home for 5 years, moving in 1882 to SD, in which state they resided for 9 years. In 1891, they returned to Necedah, in which vicinity they had since made their home. To this union were born 11 children, 6 sons and 5 daughters. She was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away in 1918 at the age of 76. One son, Joshua, and 3 daughters, Ida, Isabella, and Esther, also preceded her in death. During the past 10 years, Mrs. Porter's health has been gradually failing and she was confined to her bed most of the time. She passed away at the age of 93, 1 month, and 29 days. She was a devoted wife and mother and a kind neighbor and friend. She was a member of the United Brethren Church, ever striving to lead a true Christian life. She will be sadly missed by her family a a large circle of loving friends. She is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Edna Inks, Sacramento, CA, and Mrs. Frank McDowell, Chicago, IL; 5 sons: Dion, Merritt, and Frank of Necedah; Chester, Ellensburg, WA, and Guy, Chicago, IL; 26 granchildren, several great-grandchildren, and numberous other relatives. Among relatives from away who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Frank McDowell and Guy Porter, Chicago; Chester Porter, Ellensburg, WA; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Porter and son, Davenport, IA; Darrol McDowell, Oxford; Mr. and Mrs. Joe McDowell and 3 children and Mrs. Ruth Hacerman, Grand Marsh; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lambert and 3 children, Sparta; Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Porter and son, Mauston; Miss Hattie Pugh, Portage; Mrs. Roy Hansen and the Misses Mildren and Esther Porter, Chicago.
