The Ruidl's were from Black Forest, Germany, and the DeSmedt's were Belgiums. The oldest Ruidl's I have are Edward and Karl Ruidl. I know nothing more on Karl, but Edward was born 1874, Germany, and died 4 Feb 1941 in St. Louis Co., Mn. Edward married Cathrine (Kathrine) Ann Ziegler (b. 1885, d. 25 Jul 1952 St. Louis Co., Mn). They had about 8 kids -- Dorothy, Michael, Edward 'Eddy', Patrick 'Pat', Loraine, Mary, Alice, and Selina (Sally), I've been told by family members and friends that it was thought that Edward had been briefly in Wisconsin before coming on to Minnesota. It's also believed that he came to Wisconsin straight from Germany. The oldest DeSmedt's I have are: Charles 'Carolus' and his wife Elodie. Charles died mysteriously in a barn fire accident in Belgium before Elodie and her children came over to the U.S. The Children are as follows: Maurice Joseph DeSmedt (b.13 Feb 1894 - Belgium, d. 16 Jun 1975, Duluth, Mn. -- married to Rosie Mosiniak), Aime, Marshall, Ester, Elsie, Mary, Omer, Robert, and Albert. I wish I could verify all this for my family's sake! If anyone can help me I would GREATLY appreciate it! I don't have ANY idea where else to look!

Wednesday Dec. 1, 1897 was James Warren Harriman's sixty-fourth birthday. Two weeks ago yesterday James H. Algeo, of Lyndon, was killed by the cars at Ramsey, Minnesota. The remains were brought to Lyndon for burial. He was forty years old. Camp Douglas is to have a Methodist church. A lot has been purchased and material for the foundation is being collected. Rev. J. D. Searles, the New Lisbon pastor, is pushing the enterprise. The Thanksgiving services at the M. E. church Thursday morning were well attended considering the attendance on former Thanksgiving occasions. A good sermon was given by Rev. C. A. Boughton. The progenitor of this Platt family is John Platt, a Revolutionary War veteran, who enlisted from Littlestown, York Co. PA. One elusive child of John's is Henry. Henry was a wanderer & so were his children. We still haven't found ol' Henry. Two of Henry's children went west to search for gold & were never heard of... until I found them on your Juneau Co site. Many thanks to Jackie Hufschmid, site owner and Terry Thompson list owner for their efforts in bringing families together. A special thanks to Brian Duffy for compiling the Mauston Star 17 Nov 1887 newspaper articles. With more research, I know I can prove these fellas to be of my Platt line (how many brothers named Henry & Cosmos Plott can there be?) Now, I'm off to find Summit WI & some census records for the early to mid 1800's. Thank you for sharing the information that will bring more of my family together. 1. [WIJUNEAU] Henry Eade, 1830 - 1897
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: BROWN, EADE, FOULKES, GEER, LEONHARDT, LUTHER Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/wEC.2ACE/1230 Message Board Post: >From the Necedah Republican [Necedah, Juneau County, Wisconsin], December 3, 1897 Henry Eade Died, at his home in this village, Tuesday evening Nov. 23, 1897, Henry Eade, in his 68th year. The subject of this sketch was born in Wincove, West Grimstead, County of Sussex, England, in 1830. He was the second son of Wm. Eade, who was a lawyer, and attended school at Rugby as a classmate of Charles Dickens. The Eade family was one of the oldest and distinguished in Sussex County, and years ago was possessed of great wealth, but through some misfortune or fatality the estate was thrown into chancery court. It is said that this case furnished the celebrated and beloved Dickens material from which he wrote that splendid tale "Bleak House," in the preface of which reference is made to this case, wherein the costs exceeded seventy thousand pounds. The family of lawyer Wm. Eade consisted of five sons and five daughters. Henry Eade came to America when he was quite a young man, and to Necedah in the spring of 1856, which has since been his home. In 1860 he was united in marriage with Bridget Tressie Brown, who survives him. Six children were born to them: William E., Perry S., Mary, Nina (Mrs. A. D. Leonhardt), Serena (Mrs. Luther), Florence (Mrs. Geer), and all were able to be at the funeral except Mrs.Luther. He was always an active and hard worker until within a few years, since which time he has been crippled with rheumatism, which confined him at home. Capt. Alfred Eade, of Detroit, brother of the late Henry Eade, arrived here from Chicago last Tuesday evening, perhaps an hour before Mr. Eade passed away. The brothers had not met in thirty-six years, nor had any correspondence been kept up, not through any ill feeling, but simply through neglect. The reunion although sad, because of the event so near, was a most joyful one for the brothers. In the short time they were permitted to be together much was said and done, and the long parting was lost sight of as memory carried them back to other days, and happy boyhood scenes in the mother country. Tea was announced. Mr. Eade insisted on going to the table with his brother. He was assisted to his seat, when his head fell back and he passed away without breathing. Although he had endured much pain and suffering in late years, yet the end for him was without a struggle. The funeral services were held from the family residence Thursday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Thomas Foulkes, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church, and were attended by an unusually large number of friends and neighbors, who were not deferred by the raging elements from paying the last tribute of respect to the memory of the departed pioneer: attesting their appreciation of his sterling qualities as a neighbor and a friend. He was kind and generous to a fault; pleasant and genial everywhere, and a gentleman always; is the testimony his life long friends offer. His death finds regret in many hearts. The family have the kindly sympathy of the people in this village in their sore bereavement in the loss they have sustained. 1. [WIJUNEAU] VAN HOOSEN 1891 Lost and Found?
    2. Tiffany
    3. Hanen A Van Hoosen 05 Jan 1891 This was found in a Juneau County Marriage Index at Ancestry about a year ago. I *THINK* this is *my* Solon Van Hoosen who disappears from the radar in this year. This is the only Van Hoosen in the Juneau County index that I can not account for in my file. Is there anyone planning to visit the Mauston Courthouse and can do a transcription of the record for me? I am trying to finish up my file, I am thisclose, and would like to close the chapter on this part of Solon's life, if this is indeed him. Thanks for any assistance!
