Surnames: Macomber, Simplots Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/wEC.2ACE/1366 Message Board Post: Death of Old Resident Nelson E. Macomber was born Nov. 18, 1828 in Clearfield county, Penn., and died suddenly March 19, 1910 at his home in this city. In the year 1843 he went to Richmond, Ill., and about ten years later left for Wisconsin, coming to New Lisbon in 1855 where he spent the balance of his life. Mr. Macomber was married June 6, 1853 at Black River Falls to Eliza Simplots who preceded him several ago from this world of toil and anxiety to a better world beyond. To this union were born six sons and one daughter, all of whom survive him - John, Joseph and Miss Mary of New Lisbon, Frank of Troy, Idaho, George of Wausau, Wis., Fred, of Aberdeen, Wash., and Dean of Eyebrow, Sask, Canada. In the year 1869 Mr. Macomber united with the Baptist church of New Lisbon since when he has been constantly affilated with its work. He was a man of quiet manners and good morals and was respected by all here. His death coming so unexpectedly with hardly a day's illness previous thereto only serves to remind us that "while we are in the midst of life we are in death." Funeral services were held at the home last Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Murton of the Baptist church. Burial was in the New Lisbon cemetery. We sympathize with them in their affliction. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/wEC.2ACE/1365 Message Board Post: Joseph Darrow, born Leyden, Oneida, New York 29 Jun 1803, left New York State in the fall of 1852, coming through the Lakes to Milwaukee, arriving in Summit, Juneau in October where he settled and built the house where Dempster Darrow, his son, now (1889) lives. When Joseph and his family left New York Dempster was not with them because he was sailing on the Lakes at the time. He had not been home since spring and, therefore, did not know about the move of the family. By accident Dempster met his father on the street in Detroit where the family had laid over a day and thus found where he was going. Dempster followed in the spring of 1854. The source for the above data is taken from "An Armstrong Ancestry" as written by John Armstrong. A copy of the ancestry is in my files.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Death Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/wEC.2ACE/1364 Message Board Post: The following was published in the Juneau County Chronicle, Mauston, WI, Thursday, November 7, 1895. DEMPSTER DARROW KILLED. Struck by an engine Friday on Elm Street Crossing. He lay unconscious until Monday when he died. Buried in Evergreen Cemetery with Masonic Honors. People on the street were shocked, Friday evening, by the intelligence brought up town by railroad employes that a passing engine had struck a man at the Elm street crossing. A crowd hastily gathered at the spot when it was learned that the unfortunate was Dempster Darrow, an old resident of the town of Summit. He was placed on a cot and conveyed to Dr. Smith's office where an examination was made of his injuries and later he was borne to rooms over J. H. Upton's restaurant where he breathed his last, Monday, about 10 a.m. Mr Darrow came to the city about 4 o'clock, Friday afternoon, and after transacting some business, started to drive home, about 6 o'clock. When near the residence of James Allaby the whiffletrees to his buggy broke and leaving the rig by the roadside he drove the team to the city. He had nearly reached the crossing when he became aware of the engine bearing down upon him and quickening the pace of the team he attempted to cross. With a second more of time he would have accomplished this in safety, but before the one step could be taken that would have removed him from danger, the engine struck him and his form was hurled through the air alighting in the ditch, at a spot sixty-eight feet distant. When discovered he was unconsious and so remained until he died. It was found that his injuries consisted of numerous bruises and three broken ribs on his left side, but it is thought that death was caused from concussion of the brain. The funeral took place, Wednesday, from the chap! el in Stewart's settlement, under the auspices of the Masonic lodge of this city and the body was interred in the Evergreen cemetery at Stewart's settlement. Mr. Darrow always joked about his age and no one knows exactly but from the best information received he was 60 years old. He was born in Jefferson county, New York and came to Wisconsin in 1854 locating in the town of Summit where he has since resided. Always taking a deep interest in public affairs he has held many public offices, among them being county surveyor, deputy sheriff, postmaster and supervisor. Once he was a candidate for member of the legislature. His political faith was that of a democrat and his voice was often heard in the councils of the party. A wife and ten children survive him. 3. Finally got the internet back up :-) Unfortunately the county that we live in, St. Lucie County (Treasure Coast), got the brunt of Frances and boy did we feel it. I spent 15 hours in our closet or other wise known as the "safe room." The sound of the wind and the tiles hitting the house was horrible. But my hubby was sleeping in bed along with the 3 cats most of the time - made me mad as I only got about 1 hour of sleep. We have a lot of damage to our roof and the pool area will probably have to be completely rescreened. Gas, ice, bottled water, meat and dairy products are scarce but improving compared to a couple of days ago. In fact yesterday was a very good day for us as we got milk, lettuce, the last 2 bags of ice and gas. Hurray! Getting tired of this boil water alert and still living in a tomb with most of the shutters still up but I am so THANKFUL that we only lost power for 1 day, think it is because Home Depot is on our power. The past 2 months have certainly been the busiest hurricane season since we have been down here. And now we need to scare Ivan away. To those that have emailed me in regards to questions, postings to the site, etc., it might take me awhile to get back to you - but I will. And if you don't hear back from me within a month please email me back as I might have lost some emails while we were down Jackie Hufschmid

Davis who is listed in the 1875 census from Kildare. According to family lore, Melvin P was born in a covered wagon when the family was moving to Dakota Territory in 1878. I now find it possible that he may have been born while the family lived in Kildare, sometime between 1875 and 1878. My records indicate he was born March 25, 1878 which would seem an unlikely time to be in a covered wagon on the prairies. I would appreciate any and all information someone may supply on the above family while they resided in Juneau County. Thanks
