I am researching my great Aunt's family. John Stanley and Maryanna (LORENC or LORENTZ) MAGIERA. Names often anglicized and were also known as John and Mae (LAWRENCE) MAGIERA. One lived in neighboring Plainsfield, Washara County, WI: Antone and Zofia (LORENC or LORENTZ) (WIDZISZEWSKI). Names were anglicized at some point and were often known to be Tony and Sophy (LAWRENCE) WOLFE. This may not be the right forum for the WOLFE group but I haven't found a Waushara website and hope as neighbors you might help me on this one as well. * * * * * * * * * * * * Family Details and Queries: MAGIERA .......John Stanley Magiera b: May 01, 1882 Szczurwo (?), Poland d: December 26, 1958 Medota State Hospital, Madison, Juneau Cty (?), WI. In mid winter of 1932-1933 span, John, Sr. became extremely depressed after the death of first his daughter Bernice in 1927 and then of John, Jr. in August of 1932. He went into the woods and shot himself in the head and fell into the creek. The water was so cold that it may have prevented his bleeding to death. He lived but had severed the optic nerve to both eyes and became totally blind. He went to the school for the blind in Gainsville WI to learn to do things with his hands such as carpentry, weavings and leather work. In later years he also became totally deaf. In the mid 1050's he lived at Johnson's Nursing Home, 513 W. Page, Stoughton, WI (Source: old Christmas card lists). Buried at St. Mary's, Lyndon Station, WI by funeral home: Bernard T. Conway, Lyndon Station, on 12-29-1958. QUERY: Does anyone know how and where I can request church Roman Catholic Church records in Lyndon Station for my Great Aunt's family births, marriages, deaths, etc? Also would anyone be willing to look up old news articles on my Great Uncle's attempted suicide? And send me the County Courthouse information on same for anyone in this family? I would reimburse and/or pay a reasonable fee for such. * * * * * * * * Family Details and Queries: WIDZISZEWSKI (or WOLFE) Antone and Zofia (LORENC or LORENTZ) (WIDZISZEWSKI). Names were anglicized at some point and were often known to be Tony and Sophy (LAWRENCE) WOLFE. They lived in Plainsfield, Waushara County, WI. Although early years of their marriage were spent in Chicago, IL, in 1907, the family moved for a time to New Lisbon, WI for a short while, then back to Chicago.bought an 89 acre farm in Plainsfield, Waushara Cty, WI, and later added another 100 acres. When Sofia died in 1948 and was buried in Plainsfield, WI, a consternation in the family developed. Her neice Dorothy L. Guzikowski (anglicized to Buttens) remembers that not long after Sofia's burial the authorities found that a man in that vicinity had been digging up the recently dead and taking their bodies home to make things from them such as lampshades from the skin! Dorothy always wondered if her aunt was one of the victims. QUERY: Does anyone know how and where I can request church Roman Catholic Church records in Plainsfield, Waushara County for my Great Aunt's family births, marriages, deaths, etc? Also would anyone be willing to look up old news articles on the "lampshade" story or give me the real skinny on this? And send me the County Courthouse information on same for anyone in this family? I would reimburse and/or pay a reasonable fee for such.

I grew up in Maustion, and here is a little info on some of my family lines. The August BECKMAN family moved to Mauston from West Bend abt. 1911. Gus ran a saloon on Main St. across from the courthouse, and the family lived upstairs. Jennie was his wife's name, and the children were Pearl, Beulah, Chet, William, and Estella. Helen was born after the family came to town. Pearl married Stanely SAND in 1921. He was the Juneau County Agricultural Agent until abt 1927, and then he had a poultry hatchery. Pearl was a telephone operator. Beulah married Donald McKenzie who worked for Wisconsin Power and Electric. Chet married Velna Prosser, and was a painter, Bill joined the navy, Stella married Ray BARNWELL who had a shoe repair shop, and became the mayor of Mauston for a period of time. Helen was a telephone operator, and married David DuFrene. They moved to Portland, Oregon. Of the family, Estella, who is 88, is living in a Monroe Nursing Home. Jeanne Sand Wingert
