Hi, Does anyone know people of the Juneau Co. Historical Society. I'm wondering if the Society has plans to obtain an Email acct.? There's been times I've wanted to know certain things and really don't know who to contact. I assume that some members have Email accts. Just checking Thanks, Terry Nichols [email protected]
Hi, Anyone searching for Briggs in New Lisbon area? Descendants of Ervin Briggs? Thanks, Terry
Hi Everybody, Just want to let everyone know that I will be out of town the week of July 18th for liver tests and if everything is positive I will be having surgery approximately 1-2 weeks later. My brother needs a new liver and hopefully I will be able to give him half of mine. I would then be in the hospital for a week and back home to recuperate for another 5-6 weeks. So needless to say I will not be able to get to the library to get any census copies in order to update the census web pages. But if anyone out there would like to make copies and snail mail them to me I would appreciate it. It would give me something to do while I am recuperating, too hard for me to just lay around doing nothing on the Juneau Co. web site :) Thanks, Jackie Hufschmid Juneau Co., WIGenWeb Coordinator - http://www.rootsweb.com/~wijuneau
Hello rooters, Does anyone know of a smallpox epidemic in Juneau Co. abt 1880's. Any suggestions on how I could find out. I have a THomas Nichols that supposedly buried his wife, Cynthia Swift Nichols and four children in Mather, Wi. due to smallpox. I even am told that there is a Nichols family cemetary in Mather where these stones were visited years ago to get dates from stones. Does anyone from the Historical Society know of this cemetary? Did any of you other Juneau Co. rooters lose ancestors in the l882/1883 yrs? Too many questions....I'll stop for now Later, Terry Nichols [email protected]

MYERS, William b. 1830 NY d.1875 Germantown, Juneau Co. WI Burial at White Creek Cemetery, Adams Co WI. William 1st married Permelia Helen JENCKS, daughter of Jeheil & Lana SMITH JENCKS. Four known children born to them. EDGAR JEHIAL, Cora E. both born in Nunda, Livingston Co. NY & WILLIAM, Mary R. born in Wisconsin. Both Cora E. & Mary R. died in early childhood. Permelia Helen died in 1860. William then married Esther ACKERMAN, daughter of Truman and Rosetta ACKERMAN. To this marriage there were four known children. TRUMAN, HATTIE, ADELBERT & Evy E. who died when she was a 1yr 8mos. After William's death Esther is found on the 1880 WI, Adams County, Easton, at the household of her parents, Truman & Rosetta ACKERMAN. Esther then marries Aldon FAIRFIELD and moves to California. William & Permelia Helen JENCKS son Edgar Jehial MYERS married Mary Olive ROBINSON. They resided in Baxter's Hollow, Sauk County, WI and operated the "Myer Mill" also known as Sumpter's Variety Works before moving to California in 1910. Edgar and Mary had five children, Albert Monroe, Mary Elizabeth (Libby), Daisy Irene, Cora E. & Rene J. I am researching the William MYERS children, EDGAR JEHIAL, WILLIAM, TRUMAN, HATTIE & ADELBERT. They have somehow gotten lost in the shuffle. It is possible that William may have had a son by the name of Oscar. I am trying to locate information on the descendants of William, Myers. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Marilyn Myers Jones [email protected] lyn Myers Jones [email protected]
Just to let you all know........ I have added about 90 new names to the Juneau Co. Civil War page which can be found at http://www.rootsweb.com/~wijuneau/CWVETS.HTM And I have also completed the 1860 City of Mauston census which can be found at http://www.rootsweb.com/~wijuneau/1860Mauston.htm Enjoy, Jackie Hufschmid
According to the 1892 Plat Map the main railroad in the area was the Chicago and Northwestern RR. That railrod owned the land until it became a bike trail in the last few years. I'd start with them. Regarding the query about cause of death, I'd start with getting a death certificate. Write to: Recorders Office, Juneau Co. Courthouse, 220 East State St., Mauston, WI 53948-1385 The Mauston Library has some obits on file and some old papers on microfilm. You can write to them at: Mauston Public Library, 133 East State St., Mauston, WI 53948-1379 Terry Thompson, listkeeper Researching PETERS, LANGE, TIMM, RADKE, WEICHENTAL, BEHNKE in Juneau County
My great grandmother's sister, Ellen (HENNESSY) COSGROVE, died at about the age of twenty-one on 29JUL1889. I have a picture of her as an adult taken in New Lisbon, Wisconsin, so I think she probably died there. I am curious about why she died so young. I am seeking suggestions on how to locate an obituary for her, or possibly a newspaper article explaining the circumstances surrounding her death. I would greatly appreciate any help. Sincerely, Kim in CO
According to the 1880 census my ancestor, Luke MORROW, was a "Laborer on RR." Does anyone know which Railroad he would have worked on while living in Orange, Juneau Co., WI? Also, do you know if this Railroad has preserved their employee records from the 1870s? Any suggestions, including who to contact, would be GREATLY appreciated! Sincerely, Kim in CO

Civil War pension files and military records have NOT been microfilmed and are only available from the National archives. You need NATF form 80. from the National archives. The national archives website is www.nara.org Find the place where it says "contact us" in the website. Write FORMS in the subject line and in the body of the letter write Please send X No. Copies of NATF form 80 and write your snail address. Unfortunately this can be slow...be patient. When the form arrives BE AS COMPLETE as you can. It is easier to put in Credit card no. Don't send a check because if they can't find anything they don't charge. The address to send the form etc is on it. As I noted on my previous email, if your ancestor had a pension file, request the ENTIRE file. I hilited it in Yellow. They sent me 20 pages but then sent a letter saying there were 78 more pages and requested more money...which I gladly sent. In one of my ancestor's files there were affadavits stating parenthood of various ancestors...for some that had no birth records...and whom I just had threads of evidence. The best of all is to go directly to the National Archives in Washington and handle the papers with your own hands...quite a thrill...but this will do. Good luck. Let me know if you need any help.
