Hi, Once again I want to thank Jeanne Sand Wingert for the Mauston grads list - 1936-39, 1942-44, 1947. And also Pat Skinner McCord for the 1959 grads list from Mauston. Thanks a million to both of you. You can check out the names at http://www.rootsweb.com/~wijuneau/schools.htm Jackie
Hello Juneau, Does anyone know if the Juneau County Star-Times has an Email address, I would think they would have an Email account? Thanks Again, Terry Nichols [email protected]

Marsha, Sorry to hear you came up empty-handed. I enjoy the same thing referring to paging through the books. I was reprimanded when I was there last time. the ladies weren't very nice when I was there. I mentioned the fact to my friends at the Sparta History and research center and thought it was just me but they assured me that they have had other complaints about the Mauston office. They have quite a bit of Juneau Co. material there plus the FHC cd's. They sent me an 1898 map of Mather the other day that I probably would have had a time at the Mauston office getting. If you wish to list the people you're searching for maybe when we are searching, we would keep you in mind. my ancestors came from Lemonweir twp., and New Lisbon area. Thanks for sharing your trip, Terry Nichols [email protected] -----Original Message----- From: Marsha Wilcox [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, August 12, 1999 4:41 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Juneau Co. trip Hello listers! Thanks to everybody who sent directions and advice, my morning in Mauston was very pleasant. I didn't find a thing, however. It seems that altho 5 siblings of my ggrandmother were born there, nobody bothered to record their births. Hmph! How could my Porters live there for 12 years, have 5 children, and probably ggggrandpa Asa's wife Tabitha died there, and still not leave a trace, other than the 1860 census? Arrrgh! Anyway, the ladies in the Register of Deeds office were extremely friendly & helpful. They prefer, however, if you don't find your names in the Indexes, that you not page thru the books of records anyway. Book 1 of Births is not available for viewing, due to the fragility of the documents. Personally, I love paging thru the books. I often find that surnames were misspelled, and the Index records the misspelled version. By going thru the books, I can pick my people out via parents, etc. Also, the Marriage book is very interesting when I find my people as witnesses on other people's marriages. It gives me an idea of who their friends were. I love it for migration patterns, since very often people moved with their friends. That's my report! Does anybody know if St. Patrick's cemetery, on Rte. 12 just outside of Mauston has been indexed? Maybe my Tabitha Porter is there? Happy Hunting! Hi listers! We will be vacationing in the Dells in a week. I should be able to manage a morning in Mauston. I checked with MapQuest, and it looks to me like the courthouse is right on Rt 12, just a few miles northwest of the Dells. Is that correct? Did I really get that lucky? ;-) How is parking, and is there anything I need to know, like specific days they are closed or such-like? My Juneau Co. Surname: PORTER from Lemonweir. Happy Hunting! I am trying to locate anyone who could give me information on Sanford Garrett Taylor, who lived out in Lindina Twp from the late 1800's. He was born May 9, 1850 in Hartford, Van Buren, MI and died September 10, 1917 in Lindina Twp. He died from being gored to death by a bull in the barn yard. He had children from 3 marriages, Alden, Emory, Williard, Wilma ( who married Claud Dyer), Chester, Eloise, Everette, Madalene, and Garrett. I was raised on the farm where the Taylor's settled back in the late 1800's. I would love to hear from any one who is familiar with this family or the old Sanford Garrett Taylor farm. Thank you so much for you help. Pat Skinner-McCord
Hi Everybody, Just a quick note to let you all know that I am back and I want to thank everyone for their kind words and prayers. So far all tests are positive, just waiting for the results of the liver biopsy, and then the transplant procedure will probably take place in a couple of weeks. I will be going to the library this Thursday to get some more 1860 & 1870 census info and hopefully get those years completed before I go back to NC. Thanks again, Jackie Juneau Co. coordinator
Hello, I am looking for information on Una May Geyman who married James Mathew Babcock in Summit, WI on 12 July 1899. In 1900 census they have a daughter Irine (Irene)? In 1920 James has a different wife and younger children. Did Una May die or did they divorce? Did they have other children? What happened to Irene? I would appreciate very much any help you can give me. Pat ______________________________ Pat [email protected]
Hello everyone - I just got back from a visit to Sauk and Juneau Counties for a family reunion. I didn't have a lot of time for family research but I did get to stop by the Wonewoc Public Library (only open Mon. Wed. and Fri.) They have an indexed notebook of graves in the following cemeteries: Pine Eden, St. Pauls Lutheran, St.Teresa's Catholic, Valton, Oaks, Evangelical (Summit), Potter's, St. Peter's, Holy Rosary, Solchenberger, Rick Farm, Universal (LaValle), and Hochmuth. The Juneau County Historical Society is working on an updated version of this list, but it's been "in press" for 2 years. The librarian said they welcome inquiries. They also have some historical info on the area. Their e-mail address is: [email protected] They also have a web site that should go on line soon. Terry Thompson, WIJUNEAU listkeeper. Tampa, Florida
