Just found where my grandfather's destination was who immigrated from Germany in 1910. Ships records on arrival to Ellis Is. says Merrillan WI or something close to that. Would anyone know of or have access to some possible city directories for this town or a farm directory ? I rather doubt he made the 1910 census as he landed in NY in late Aug. Other names linked with Ernest John Witt are the following; Stotz Vollestedt Muller Burmeister He finally ended up in Elgin, IL. in 1913 applying for naturalization and spent the rest of his life there.
