    1. S. A. SHELDON, Aug 17, 1830 - Feb 11, 1890
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: MASON, PORTER, PRICKETT, ROBIE, SHELDON Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/oEC.2ACE/485 Message Board Post: From the Badger State Banner [Black River Falls-Jackson Co-WI], Thursday February 20, 1890, Page 4 Column 4 Dr. S. A. SHELDON, who died at his home in the town of Irving, February 11, 1890, was born in Stuben Co. New York, August 17, 1830, and was hence about 59 1/2 years old. He came west in 1840, with his parents, who settled in Illinois. In 1856 he found his way to Black River Falls, Wis. and soon after opened a drug store in company with I. S. MASON. In the fall of the year following this firm bought out H. E. PRICKETT's drug store and consolidated the business. In 1858 W. B. PORTER bought in with Mr. SHELDON, and not very long after bought Mr. SHELDON out also. This gave him an opportunity which he improved to go to Chicago and complete his medical studies. He secured a diploma from the Rush Medical College on February 15, 1860, and returning here he soon after went into partnership with Dr. James ROBIE in the practice of medicine and operation of a drug store. They continued in this busness until the spring of 1863, when Mr. SHELDON went to Illinois to accept the position of! first assistant surgeon of the 26th regiment, Illinois infantry. In that capacity he served his country for about two years. In 1866 he went to Iowa and located in the practice of his profession, but found his way back here agin in the fall of 1867. Five months later he went to Coral City (now Whitehall), Trempealeau Co., Wis. Here he practiced until 1871, when he bought and moved on the farm in Irving, where he resided the remainder of his life. He never took very much personal interest in the running of his farm, always employing men to do the work, and applying all his own energies to the practice of his profession. The nature of his disease was fully described in the last issue of the Banner as it can be. He had known for the past two years that he might be taken from his family at any time, and he has suffered much pain for a year past. Toward the last his sufferings were terrible. Mr. SHELDON was a conscientious man, and was by nature tender hearted and sympathetic. As a physician he was well-read, but extremely cautious, painstaking and attentive. If he ever erred it was on the side of caution rather than dash. 1. Joseph STICKNEY, d. Apr 25, 1889
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: SPAULDING, STICKNEY, WOOD, YEATMAN Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/oEC.2ACE/482 Message Board Post: From the Badger State Banner [Black River Falls, Jackson Co., WI], May 2, 1889, Page 4 Column 5 DIED--STICKNEY--At the City Hotel, in this city, Thursday evening April 25, 1889, of paralysis, Mr. Joseph STICKNEY, aged 73 years. Mr. STICKNEY was one of the party who came here in the spring of 1839, in the employ of Robert and Andrew WOOD; under Jacob SPAULDING, millwright, forming the first settlement on Black River which was followed by continuous residence. There are now only two known survivors of these original settlers. One of these is a brother of the deceased, Alonzo STICKNEY, and is now in California. The other, Hiram YEATMAN, resides in the second ward, in this city, and is nearly seventy-six years of age. The deceased was not only one of the first settlers on the Black River, but he may also be said to have had the longest continuous residence in Black River Falls of any man in it at the time of his death. He returned to Prairie du Chien in the spring of the same year of his arrival here, but returned in 1846, and has resided continuously here since. In early years he, in partnership with his brother Alonzo, bought a farm just west of the present fairgrounds and he resided there ever since until about a year ago. The funeral was held at the hotel Saturday afternoon, and was quite well attended by old settlers and prominent citizens. Rev. Bley was the officiating minister. The oldest person we have in our family is my husbands great grandfather Eber Finch . The earlist record I have of Eber is in the 1853 census when he married Charlotte Burdick. Eber was from New York and Charlotte from Vermont. According to family members my Eber had five brothers and the whole family was involved in shipping by boat in the Lake Champaign are. The coincidence and the reason for my response is : My Eber Finch was from Richland Co and his friend was a Wright, in fact it was Frank Lloyd Wrights father. I am hoping you may have a link. I can not find Eber in any of the 1850 census records but he was born in 1804 in NY. My e-mail is darray@charter.net

    2. Henry Van Arnum Relyea came from Guilderland, Albany County, New York and I believe was connected with the Hilderberg Reformed Church there. Lots of Relyeas in that area. I'm not connected with that family but I do know the descendants here just compiled a family history book. They may know of other Relyea connections. I will email you with their mailing address. Good luck.
