Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/oEC.2ACE/378.1 Message Board Post: I am related to Abner through his brother Leo John Polleys, son of William Polleys and Della Neilson. William and Della were divorced sometime before 1906. Leo married twice. The first resulted in the birth of Howard Polleys, who was raised by Della and her second husband. Leo married Gunhild Marie Natalie Oberg in Rockford, Winnegao, Illinois. My grandmother is one of their four daughters. We are trying to find information on Leo. He left his wife and daughters around 1930. They have no knowledge of his whereabouts and would like to know what became of him. Thank you for your kindness and help. Paula K. Merseal Best

    3. Hello All, The Chicago Park District Administration Building recently moved to new office space, and during the move, *160 old documents were found* that had been used to prove residency in the early 1900's. Many central WI settlers had ancestors with Chicago roots, or descendants who later went there for work, so this website might be of help to someone. The names with identifying information and instructions for claiming a document can be found at http://www.chicagoparkdistrict.com/press/58.cfm Newberry Library will receive any documents unclaimed by the first of the New Year. with best wishes, Joan M. 1. Abbie JENKINS, d. May 1867
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: COLE, JENKINS, SIMPSON Classification: Death Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/oEC.2ACE/503 Message Board Post: >From the Jackson County Banner [Black River Falls, Jackson Co. WI], May 11, 1867, Page 3 Column 2 Sad Affair--A Woman Nearly Burned to Death Last Wednesday the people of this place were astonished and shocked by the announcement that a young woman had been burned to death that morning about two and a half miles northwest of this village, at the residence of F. SIMPSON, Esq., by her clothes taking fire from the stove, around which she was engaged at work. The story seemed too horrid to be believed, but it was soon ascertained to be true. The unfortunate woman's name is Abbie JENKINS, who was employed by Mr. SIMPSON to do the house work in his family. On Wednesday morning she was left alone, engaged in mopping the floor, while Mrs. S went to one of the neighbors, about one hundred rods distant, with no one near but a little boy about four or five years old. By some accident Miss JENKINS' clothes caught fire from the stove, and she, becoming frightened and excited, rushed screaming from the room to the wood house. Her cries attracted the attention of the little boy, who, upon ascertaining the trouble, ran to the nearest neighbors for assistance. On the arrival of Mrs. S. and others, the clothing of the unfortunate woman was found to be entirely burned form her body, and she was nearly insensible. Dr. COLE, who attended her, says that nearly the entire body was burned to a crisp, presenting a horrid sight, and that she cannot possibly survive. She was still alive on Thursday morning, but no hopes of her recover! y are entertained. This is the first affair of the kind that has happenned in this vicinity, and we hope it will be the last. Ladies should be very careful when engaged in work at close proximity to stoves, as we have no desire to chronicle another occurrence of this kind in twenty years. The unfortunate woman was 25 years of age, and we do not learn that she has any relatives in this part of the country. We hope that this will prove to a warning to all to be careful in the future. P.S.--Since the above was put in type we learn that the unfortunate young lady died on Thursday forenoon. Her father lives in the town of Hixton, in this county, and he was present at the time of her death. Dates of 1853-1860 pre date Jackson County's existence, prior records can be located at either LaCrosse or Crawford County Records. (I can check LaCrosse) 2. Jackson had an indexed list by cemetery of all burials within them. No Jane Race Sherwood is listed. 3. There does exist a Sherwood Cemetery, twn of Springfield, and their are Sherwood's buried at Brookside Cemetery, twn of Millston. If you are interested in that information please email me at jbart28371@aol.com. Jo
