Surnames: Stocker Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/oEC.2ACE/545 Message Board Post: Obituary from Black River Falls Banner Journal: EUGENE STOCKER ELECTROCUTED Eugene Stocker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stocker, of Shake Hollow, was killed Saturday morning by an electric shock received on the high power line just below Melrose. He had climbed a tower and came in contact with the wires. A fuse blew out and the fact that something was amiss was known at once by the fact that all the drops fell in the telephone office. Electric clocks also stopped. Mr. Cotton was notified and discovered the cause. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, a prayer at the Smith funeral home, and a service at 2 o’clock at the Methodist Episcopal church, Rev. Holmes officiating. The song service was given by Willard Webb and Ed Lewison, with Mrs. James Bolger as accompanist. Interment was made in the Melrose cemetery. Many friends attended the service. Eugene was born Steptember 10th, 1910, and would have reached the age of 25 years next September. He had always made his home with his parents and had not been well of late suffering of a poisonous goitre for the past year, for which he had been under treatment. He spent nearly two months with his sister, Mrs. Frank Shankey, in this city after the first of the year, and had planned on going to Madison last Saturday to enter the General hospital there for treatment. His death comes as a great shock to his parents and members of the family and to the many friends of the family, who extend all the sympathy in the world to his parents, sisters and brothers. He had been around just as usual the morning of his death and making preparations for his departure during the day. Besides his parents Eugene is survived by seven sisters and four brothers. One brother, Fred Stocker, of Bangor, preceded him in death, passing away seven years ago. Those surviving, all of whom came to attend the funeral are: Raleigh, of West Salem, Rachel, Mrs. Frank Shankey, and Ruth. Mrs. Harold Halverson, both of this city; Rueben, of North Bend; Algie, of Taylor; Janice, Mrs. Felix Hostnick, and Miss Dorothy, of Chicago; Clara, Mrs. Warren Radcliffe, of Melrose; Chester, Mae and Marjorie, at home.

    1. Sarah Stratton Hubert (Mrs. Fred Hubert)
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: HUBERT, STRATTON, JOHNSON Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/oEC.2ACE/542 Message Board Post: OBITUARIES (From the Black River Falls Banner Journal) DEATH OF MRS. FRED HUBERT It was with sincere regret that the many friends of Mrs. Fred Hubert learned of her sudden death on Friday, Nov. 5th, 1920, at her farm home six miles west of this city, of infection of the gall bladder, at the age of 45 years, 7 months and 25 days. Sarah E. Stratton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Byron Stratton, was born in the town of Irving, March 10th, 1873, and has lived practically all her life in and near that vicinity. When her home was broken up by the death of her parents, she went to live with her foster mother, Mrs. E. Fisher, who has cared for her since a child of eleven years, and been in the true sense of the word, a real mother to her. Mrs. Hubert had been in delicate health for the past four years, sometimes better and then again worse, until a change for the worse came to her on election day, and she failed rapidly until death came as a relief to her suffering. Every possible thing was done to aid in her recovery, but all was of no avail. She was married November 24th, 1885, at the home of Mrs. Fisher, in Squaw Creek, to Fred Hubert. They went immediately to home making on a little farm about five miles from this city, where they lived happy and contented lives until about two years ago, when they disposed of that place and purchased the place where they now live. Seven children came to bless this union, all of whom were at the bedside of their mother when she passed away. They are, Mrs. Holga Johnson, of this city, Gertrude, a senior in our high school, Lydia, Loren, Archie, Delia and Freda, at home, all at the age when they need the loving care of a mother most. She will be sadly missed by her husband, children, relatives, and many friends. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. Jake Hubert, of this city, who is heart broken, as they were very much devoted to each other. Mrs. Hubert was a devoted wife and mother, sacrificing much for the care and comfort of her loved ones. She was ever ready to assist and further any worthy cause and was a devout member of the M. E. church. There were many beautiful floral offerings, showing in what high esteem the departed one was held by her friends. The high school senior class also sent flowers. The singing was beautiful and very appropriate. The funeral was held Sunday, Nov. 7th, at Trout Run, Rev. F. R. Harding conducting the services. Interment was made in the Trout Run cemetery by the side of her parents. Her cousins acted as pall bearers. The bereaved ones have the deepest sympathy of the entire community in their sad affliction. Card of Thanks We wish to thank the neighbors and friends for their help and sympathy during the sickness and death of our wife, mother, and sister. Also for the flowers and music. FRED HUBERT AND CHILDREN MRS. JACOB HUBERT, JR.

He unfortunately had on a deerskin cap. A young man named Johnny HURST was hunting for deer at the same time, and seeing what he supposed to be one, fired and inflicted so severe a wound in the head of Mr. FLICK that he died in about three-fourths of an hour. Mr. RACE has been troubled with heart disease for some time. By request of Sheriff POPE, he accompanied that officer to Waupun to assist in conveying two convicts--ELKINS and HUBERTY--to the prison. He was on his way back at the time of the sad occurrence. When he awoke in the morning, he felt bad, and began to gasp. Before Mr. POPE could get assistance, Poor RACE had breathed his last and the spirit of a good man had flown to its Maker. He leaves a wife and one child to weap tears of sorrow for a true and loving husband and affectionate parent. May God, in His infinite goodness, watch over and protect the widow and orphan. Edwin RACE has been a resident of Black River Falls about three years, during the most of which time he has taught the school in 3rd Ward. Eight months ago he commenced studying law under the instruction of Col. POPE, and was making unusually rapid progress. His funeral took place yesterday, the 20th.
