Classification: Pension Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/oEC.2ACE/578 Message Board Post: In 1882, Congress directed the Military Pension Office to prepare a listing of individuals receiving pensions for prior war service. The Pension Office produced a listing called "Pensioners on the Roll" as of January 1, 1883. I have transcribed the list of Military Pensioners that were residing in Adams, Ashland, Barron, Bayfield, Brown, Buffalo, Burnett, Calumet, Chippewa, Iowa, Jackson, La Crosse, Monroe, Richland, Trempealeau, Vernon, and Washington counties. I have recently moved those pages to my new home page on Rootsweb. Go to my home page at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~eborreson/ and scroll all the way down to "Military Pensioners". That link will take you to a page that lists the counties. Select the county and you will be taken to a page that lists the names exactly as they were originally published. Please let me know if you find this of any value. I know he died in 1873. His wife Emeline died in 1867 in Black River Falls. The Buttons in Melrose are probably family. His son Jefferson L lived around there somewhere. I am trying to find John in the hopes it will give me leads to another son, Myron, my gg grandfather. My g grandfather Horace was supposedly born in Irving in 1872 but I havent been able to find any of them after the 1860 Clay, Onondaga Co., NY census. According to the obit posted on Emeline the family moved there in 1865. I recently saw the obit about Emeline. There are messages posted about Emeline Button and Jefferson L Button. I have ancestry but haven't had any luck finding them. Donna
