Why I saved five meals at home. On the beautiful sunshine morning of June 8, 1923 a party of seven girls (Laurietta, Dot, Sammy, Jo, Joseph,Annabel) started out to Green Lake by car. And how many "Oh is that Beautiful!" escaped my lips. And did we go at 40-50 per, A fine appearance was presented to Green Lake people when we entered the city. Speak about our feverent hair combing. You should see us. Arrived at Cottage Grove at last. Thank God came from all. But how about eating. One grand dive into the car and all (soudivit ches --unsure of spelling) were gone. Then came pop. Oh you old naughty pop. How sweet and speckled Jo and Joseph looked, Beyond words. Then dinner, cafeteria style. Sandwiches-cheese, ham, egg, minced meat-loaf-assorted cakes, bananas, oranges,pickles, olives, pop, cookies, oranges, meatloaves, salmon loaves, and plenty of everything, A nice car ride! 11 cents a piece for gas. Dot drives into farm yard.Oh what laughter! After a hard try to turn around in the yard, we go for a ride around the lake by way of Princeton. Back in the woods- a nice rest in the car - treat of oranges and visit to a strawberry patch with Mrs. Peck. A wonderful joy ride on a rope swing. Queen of the Lake arrived. All aboard! Many ohs- and ahhs and look over there. Ride from 5:15 to 7:00. Supper all set. (Thanks Mrs. Peck and dear old Miss Helen Richie) Jo and Joseph are undecided whether to ride with Lilly or not. At last we leave and how we did sing" Seniors are we, class of '23 etc.". Hello Berlin! A trip to Pleasant View Farm. Betsy departs "Farewell to ye salutatorian" Back to town "Goodnight Sammy, Sorry your leaving". Jo enjoys a nice nap. "Well Jo here you are." “Kick her out Annabel” comes from Joseph.Good-bye Jo. A short ride and then to St. Stanislaus Church. "Get out Flo and take your salad back. we are too full to eat after our ( box lunch --unsure of spelling)at Green Lake. At W. Garage. Dot tells about the trip, we leave. Well good night Dorothy. Thanks ever so much for your kindness. Hope we can go out together many more times. A short walk through the park and many wishes for a rest, Goodnight Annabel. We'll go out again soon I hope. Goodnight Joseph you have a bright light.Lots of company(perfect darkness.) House at last! A trip to bed. Oh howtiresome. No breakfast next day. Too much picnic. Nevermind the troubles and tiresome hours. We are leaving this ground...old school today.
